Bringing a story like this to film must have been extremely challenging and uplifting. What we find here is an extremely troubling, yet convincing story about a hidden enigma in time, written and stored away in a time-capsule for 50 years, only to be discovered by Son and Father, Caleb and John Keostler. Caleb's surprise from the time capsule turns out to be an uncanny, prophetic premonition about hundreds dates and locations of events that have happened recently in the past, and still continue to happen throughout the film.

The spooky phrase helps depict the pensive mood and immediate urgency about the following events within the storyline when the question is posed, "What happens when the numbers run out"?

That question that is posed, turns out to be the big surprise of the film.

5/5 for complete and total genius. Thanks, Alex Proyas.

This is a GREAT movie. Fifty years after a time capsule is buried at a local
school, MIT professor John Koestler (Nicolas Cage) examines its contents and
discovers that it holds many shockingly true predictions. Soon, John is
convinced that his family will play a role in an impending apocalypse. Rose
Byme co-stars as Diane Wayland, the daughter of the woman who first buried
the capsule. They together investigate the code found in the capsule and
follow a line of disasters are in the predictions. As they continue they
find an even larger - more shocking disaster. In a great suspenseful ending
the movie ends, but leaves a future for selected ones. Anyone that likes
suspense and mind bending movies will truly enjoy this one, and it will make
you want to watch it again to see if you missed anything.

This was an interesting movie. Personally, I like N. Cage. I especially like his recent action movies. When he's angry, you believe it. Sad or upset, you feel for him. In this movie he experiences the full range of emotions. A single parent, he's still dealing with the death of his wife, and his loss of faith in anything spiritual. Obtaining a list of numbers from his young son, which was buried in a school time capsule some 50 years before, the drama begins. Cage decifers the numbers to find that they accurately predict disasters, and loss of life. He becomes obsessed with understanding, and trying to prevent these disasters. In the meantime, some sinister looking men appear with far too great an interest in his son. The ending to this movie surprised me. Usually I can guess the outcome, but this one threw me for a loop. Dont want to spoil it for anyone, so I cant say more. Theres lots of action in it. Definately worth a look. Very entertaining.

Finally, a great sci-fi movie for sci-fi fans

Finally, after many years of watching the same old science fiction films being re-made someone has released a great science fiction movie that every sci-fi fan will enjoy

The movie stars Nicolas Cage (Next, National Treasure & more) as John Koestler, widowed MIT Professor who is living with his elementary school aged son. His son is given a letter written 50 years ago by a student at his school that was sealed in a time capsule. This letter is a series of numbers that Cage figures out are dates, times and places of events that have and will happen.

From there the movie draws you into the search for an answer as to why this letter was written in the first place, bringing up the question, why foretell the future if you cannot do anything about it?

This movie is both entertaining and is very well acted.

I personally love a science fiction movie and highly recommend this one to anyone else who does. I also recommend this movie to anyone who just enjoys a well written and well acted movie.

Rated 5 for 5 for an excellent plot, acting and a great story.

I wanted to first start off by saying that the Previews(trailers) that we had seen were AWESOME, and then to throw Nicholas Cage into the mix, made this movie a must-have! Then we just happened to stumble across "renting it", and are glad we did.

The storyline was good, somewhat dry at times. The ACTION was great, when it happened. The Special Effects in the action scenes almost made you feel that you were in the scene itself. I just wish the "good" scenes werent so spread apart, as there were only like 3 or 4 really good, blow me out of my seat scenes. This would have been an awesome movie if it was packed with scenes like they offered, but there were only a few.

Scientifically speaking, it was a very interesting movie and shows what may come of the world in time. Entertaining wise, it kept our attention but really didnt grab our attention enough to run back out and buy it. We watched it twice the first night, and it was worth it, but to own it, we'll pass.

Nicholas Cage offered an A++ Performance. And like I said, when there were great scenes happening, the SPECIAL EFFECTS were awesome!

If we owned this DVD, it would sit on the shelf, so I recommend to RENT IT first.

Overall, I give KNOWING a rating of Average.

This is a movie which makes you sit and think, What if that really happened? Great special effects and a good story line. The movie goes along the lines of all actions, deaths, are for a reason in the end which doesn't explain why it seems as if the only person who finds out is considered a loony and lives close to alein ground zero. The movie left me with a lot of un-answered questions even if it was entertaining as a whole. I guess it is an entertaining movie and not one you want to try and understand why didn't the aleins finish everybody off when they were first spotted. Or why did total panic happen 50yrs after the fact, why not100-200 years. all in all I give it a 3 out of 4 stars or a "good thing I waited for a dvd instead of going to the movies" rating.

Recently viewed the movie "Knowing", I thought the movie was very good. It had quite a bit of suspense, made you think, and the acting was good. The ending did not turn out the way I had hoped it would, the ending was a little far out there for me. The ending was the only thing about the movie that kept me from rating it Excellent...

Every time you watch it you'll discover more. Do you believe in angles? I think I saw one. Nicoles Cage was good as the single father of a young son. His belief structure does a 180 degree turn during the film. the director captured it perfectly. I think anyone that like him in NEXT will love him in this.

Oh boy. Nicholas Cage. *Cracks knuckles* Let's get down to business.

Knowing was directed by Alex Proyas who has brought us such gems in the past as I, Robot and The Crow so he knows how to tell a mystery story. I thought he did a ok job bringing the movie together, but both the plot and lead actor had some flaws.

The story follows Nicholas Cage's son gets a piece of paper out of a time capsule that has a series of numbers covering the whole thing. By coincidence, Cage notices a few numbers match up with a date and number of casualties of a news worthy tragedy. Soon he is dissecting the whole sheet like a mad man and looking up every other sequence to match it with another tragic event where lives are lost. It absolutely kills me that he is supposed to be an astronomer/professor/numbers guru and takes sooooo long to consider that the section of numbers at the end of each sequence could be coordinates to the location of the disaster. Why isn't that his first guess? I thought he was supposed to be genius level. It's already hard to get past that surfer dude accent so please don't dumb this down for the audience, we're all way ahead of you.

(Spoiler Alert, skip this paragraph) Eventually he hunts down the ancestors of the girl who wrote the numbers to try and figure out where they came from and why, but meets a dead end. All he really learns is that the last set of numbers points to the annihilation of EVERYONE ELSE.

This movie is hard to watch only because of Nicholas Cage. There are some movies I have enjoyed him in (City of Angels oddly enough and sometimes Ghost Rider), but all in all he is always playing the same guy with the same surfer voice! The supporting actors don't and probably can't make up for this because they aren't given much to work with. They are solely there for Cage to talk to and think out loud around because he's in almost every scene.

If you can ignore him, this movie is worth watching for a very small handful of sequences. Get past the boring stuff and watch for a plane crashing beside a highway and people running out of it engulfed in flames! Amazing, terrifying, heart-breaking, and exhilarating all at the same time. There are creepy no-face men stalking Cage's son and handing out black stones and they give a couple good scares. Anytime there is a special effects destruction scene, it makes it worth sitting through the rest because they look amazing and we all love some good old-fashioned explosions and destruction, don't we?

I expected this movie to end the way a lot of these destruction movies do but I was pleasantly surprised to see them stay the course and not make up a deux ex machina at the end. I respect that. The plot I blow a raspberry at. The visual effects made me sit up and take notice. I could've cut this movie down to 20 minutes tops to see the good parts.

This was a very intense on the edge of your seat kind of movie. I saw it originally at the theatre and the audience about JUMPED out of thier seats! Now what I didn't like, well not for impressionable kids, promoted too much alcohol use as being the answer to depression, Not for easily offended Christians, there are a few places that may be uncomfortable, when he puts down Faith. It kind of has a neutral ending to please all Audiences, still leaving the religious door open as well as science. And was very Plausible...as the way the Earth could End. The disaster special effects were realistic, the sci fi part was pretty well done, and you really got into the movie, trying to figure out what was going on before the character did!!
