Not essential
Nice format, good size to carry in a knitting bag.
The gimmick is that the (very good) information is presented as answers to questions and solutions to problems. Example: "Can I fix a cable that's twisted wrong...?" And: "Aren't all needles shaped the same --- long and pointy?" And "Do I need a knitting bag?" Forcing information into this format is sometimes awkward and results in excess wordiness. The result is neither fish nor fowl: more than a list of problems and solutions, less than a full-fledged reference book.
However, the information is solid if not exciting; there are some useful charts and there is an excellent list of resources, including books and Web sites.
If you already own a good portable reference such as Vicky Square's Knitting Companion or the spiral-bound condensation of Vogue Knitting, you can live without this one.
