Knitting by Anne Akers Johnson (2004, Paperback)

I admit it - the reason I purchased this book is because it is listed as appropriate for ages 8 and up. I know my own abillity to follow written instructions is quite poor; so my hope was by reading a book designed for a second grader even I would be able to figure out how to knit!

And - I DID! Through clear photos and illistrations, this book which is actually a fully stocked knitting kit is the perfect place to begin. The projects are simple and run though a variety of techniques and basic stitches, which when used in combination can provide a very sophisticated item. The best part of this book? All the instructions are written in plain english, not Knitglish. The worst part? The binding! It would be nice if it could lay flat open so a person could look at the instructions while knitting with both hands.

A terrific summer project for child and adult alike!

Knitting by Anne Akers Johnson is a great book for beginning knitters as well as seasoned ones.

It starts with making cast on stitches, knit stitches, purling, winding yarn balls, binding off, gauging, selecting yarn picking dropped stitches. I gave my 10 year old granddaughter this book for her birthday and she has used it to learn the basics of knitting all by herself.

The patterns has among other things starter hats, ipod holder and purses. So if you are just starting in this wonderful journey or know a young lady or male who would love to learn this ages old craft this is the book for you.

everything comes in a nicely packaged kit. very organized, colorful, & appealing. looks easy to follow. great pictures.

This was very easy to follow. This was a great buy. I Learned to knit in no time! My daughter is now using it and learning to knit as well. I loved that it came with everything you need to get started. You will need to buy extra yarn soon, because you will want to try every project in the book.
