Knitter's Handbook by Montse Stanley (1999, Paperback)

As stated in the subtitle, this is truly "A comprehensive fuide to the principles and techniques of handknitting." It is very easy to use and has explicit instruction with wonderful graphics both in color and black and white. The book is divided into five parts. The first, BASICS, is exactly that and helpful for the beginner. Part Two gives directions from start to finish with everything and anything the knitter needs. Part Three is for finishing techniques and Part Four has pattern instructions with details on how to decode charts and read patterns. The last section, Part Five deals with help of all kinds such as dropped stitches and errors. Lastly, it also include gauge charts.

This is a book that every knitter, new or seasoned, should not be without. I found it very helpful and easy to help me understand a pattern I was not familiar with. When needing to learn a new method of joining fabrics, it was very clear to understand the different ways. The instructional pictures are so easy to follow. They are large enough to see each step very clearly. The photographs are beautiful as well as helpful.

This is truly a comprehensive knitting guide and I recommend it to all. I received mine as a gift and it stays right next to my knitting bag.

This book is one of the most complete and easy to follow knitting books I have seen. It goes from the very basic to the complex and the wording is such that you can actually understand it without being a knitting god.

I keep referring back to it on each project if the directions on the project are not clear, I just grab the book and figure it out.

It has complete instructions (illustrated)on how to knit. I am a knitter and really appreciate this book. It answers every question with complete instructions and a picture. It is perfect!

Comprehensive is a very good word for this book. I found this book to be so complete that I was re-checking it out over and over from the local library and finally had to get on EBay to get my very own copy. I realized it wasn't fair to others looking for this information to check it out so often. The photos are so clear that you can easily see the action being demonstrated and the instructions seem to be extra precise. I have read a lot of books and this one is the most helpful book I have found for knitting know how!!!

This book has wonderful illustrations, descriptions and guides to all stitches and techniques needed for handknitting. The layout is user-friendly and very easy to look up the needed information NOW. Clear glossary located in the back of the book makes it easy to look up the stitch or technique and locate all relevant information on that topic through-out the book.

I would recommend this book to anyone needing a dictionary-type book to aid them in their knitting projects.
