Synopsis Rival fencers vie for a young man's heart in Volume One of a series of yaoi manga, a Japanese graphic novel with explicit homosexual content. Kei, the illegitimate son of a Yakuza boss, loves Ranmaru, a kendo (Japanese fencing) champion. An attempt by a rival boss to kill Kei in a car accident injures Ranmaru so profoundly that he can never compete again. The tragedy deepens the commitment between the pair, but years later, they face a new threat: Kei's half-brother Kai, a skilled swordsman passionately in love with Ranmaru himself. The black-and-white art maintains a suitably tight focus on the gorgeous characters, while the backgrounds remain fairly simple. The manga contains several sex scenes, but, as is typical for this subgenre, none are too revealing. The book reproduces its original Japanese right-to-left format.
