Kiss [Remaster] by Kiss (CD, Jul-1997, Mercury)

I knew right away I would love this album just from the cover. It's so simple but yet so powerful. The record starts out with a simple drum line from the song Strutter. Strutter is a simple yet catchy little tune. Kiss then turn up the heat with the third track Firehouse. Now it's time to cool down with some Cold Gin. I love Gene's voice on Cold Gin, it's so throaty and yet shrills at the same time. Why does Gene sing this track if he's so anti drugs & drinking? The album closes out with two of my all-time favorite Kiss songs 100,000 years and the ever so powerful Black Diamond. I absolutely love the way Black Diamond fades out at the end. It sounds even better cranked up loud on vinyl! Overall this is such an awesome album and one of personal all-time favorites. This feature some of Ace's best staggering guitar lines and riffs. It's a must have in everyones collection.

This is the beginning of something very big. This is rock n roll to the max. These guys started out so well and set the standard so high that in later years even they had a hard time trying to live up to what they had already done. They did start the Metal movement in this country. The tunes on this CD are gritty-even shocking in how candid they are. Preachers say they're devils-their fans want more! Very few can play the guitar like Frehley. Stanley's voice was great. Simmons sounds like something from beyond this mortal world. I give them 5 Stars!

I am at a loss for words since there is rarely a CD where there are no songs that I do not like. This is one of them and proves that Kiss knew how to rock from the time they burst through the gate. The best songs are Strutter, Nothin to Lose, Firehouse, Cold Gin, and Black Diamond. A must have for any Kiss fan. A fun fact about the cover is that for this album the record company Casablanca hired a professional to paint Peter Criss's face. He was extremely unhappy with it and went back to his origonal makeup design. But the cover still looks cool anyway.
