THE LONG AWAITED SEQUEL - WORTH THE WAIT!
Review created: 12/03/06

As one completely bowled over by the original Kingdom Hearts, I bought the sequel as soon as humanely possible and finished it three days later, emerging from the fantastic world I had been submerged in a little disoriented at the sudden lack of Disney characters in THIS world.

This was everything that I had hoped it be, and better. The same enjoyable elements that made the original such a keeper are all here - imcomparable graphics, engaging storyline, easy yet interesting and enjoyable game play, and of course hundreds of Disney characters in addition to the original much loved Sora, Donald, and Goofy. There are familiar faces returning, as well as a host of fresh new characters. We finally get to find out whether or not Sora, Riku, and Kairi are reunited! I won't spoil it for you. This was another masterpiece, a game so easy to fall into that you honestly get annoyed at the things that keep you from it, like work, eating, etc. The game play has actually been improved, with more flexibility and game play options for the player plus improved angling, and the gummi ship system was greatly improved. There are scores more mini-games and challenges that are enough to make another game out of them alone. The bad guys are bigger and badder, and the good guys lift the game to heights you won't believe.

You don't need to have played the original Kingdom Hearts game to enjoy this one, although it would enhance the experience. The only fly in the ointment was the seemingly endless beginning with completely new characters and locations that took some time into the game to understand. However, it's all part of an RPG and not as bad as some reviewers make it out to be. Also, while the story was a continuation of the first, it seemed to lack the emotional punch of the first. That was part of the draw for me, getting drawn into the story and wanting to find Kairi and Riku just as much as Sora did. This lack of personal involvement was not enough, however, to make a real dent in my enjoyment of the entire game.

This is another must for your RPG library, and one that you will play over and over and enjoy just as much each time. Don't miss it.

  Have You Seen My Son?
Review created: 04/05/06

9 of 15 people found this review helpful.

I don't play the games, but I can usually tell which are excellent, which are so-so, and which are a real drag. My son tries to play everything that is out at least once. He trades for a weekend with friends or rents them or I buy them. Kingdom Hearts (the first one) made him a hero at his school because he was the first to complete it. He and all his friends got Kingdom Hearts II on the 30th (first available date here) and it is a race to see which one of them can complete it first. I haven't felt this alone in a long time. I also haven't had him so willing to do his homework... he can't play the game until all homework is done. What is normally a battle after school, is now a 10 or 15 minute thing ("Look Mom, can you leave me alone? I'm doing my homework"). I gotta tell you that this game is a winner in my book! I asked my son what he thought of it so far - he threw me a 'don't bother me I'm playing the best game to come along in a long time' look...

Not What I Expected But Still Great

This, like the first two, Kingdom Hearts game, was awesome. The combos, the story line, the art, the music, everything makes the game playing awesome and enjoyable. For those who like RPGs this is a must have. I played the first game when it came out, had to buy it, found the secret ending, then realized that that was a scene from KH2, only to be released 2 years later. KH Chain of Memories was a good link between, if you havent played chain of memories you will probably be lost in KH2. KH2 gives you closure. The abilities, summons, items and limit combos are awesome. You can play not only as Sora in this game, but also as King Mickey, and also Riku. There are many, many, did i mention, many... side missions. They are not essential, but if you would like a special suprise at the end of the game, i suggest you finish Mr. Cricket's journal there. A little tip. Over all this game was great. The first game in the series, yes i feel the fun factor was better, and the story was a little more alive, but this one takes a very deep and serious turn. Its a good story, good game. One for the classics. :) I suggest this game to everyone.

This is a Great Sequel that was await by many to come out. They released this game and it was worth the wait in Gold. This game has it all again Disney characters, Final Fantasy Characters, new Realms in the Disney world to explore. This is a great game to own you will not be at all disappointed in this game. As with the first one this is even better I think. This has 80+ hours of game play all gamers like that. It has great graphics, a Great story line. This has a high replay value you will not be selling this one anytime soon or even trading it in. This is worth the money it is great for children and adults alike you won't waste your money on this game.

A GREAT FOLLOW UP TO THE FIRST ONE

This game pick up right where the other one left off. If you liked the first one I would highly advise buying this game. Once again the graphics, characters, and weapons are awesome. The plot is very confusing at first and almost imposible to solve but by the end everything starts to piece together. The only thing that I dislike a little is that there are a lot of the same lands to go to as the first one. Regardless, this game is a great game: both challenging and fun. Your hardest enemies will be a group of people known as Organization XIII. So plunge in, and discover some secrets about Sora that you never knew before. You will not regret buying this game.

  Spectacular Sequel

The programmers and writers at Square-Enix sure had fun making this one! This is no cookie cutter, run-of-the-mill game. For one thing, the sheer magnitude of detail surpasses what I have seen in some mmorpgs, but remains cheerful and joyous. There are times in this game when Sora(you) can enter into the game TRON, you can also go back to the 1930'2 era Walt Disney black and white style in which goofy and donald have those VERY skinny black tube legs. HILARIOUS! Sheer video gaming GENIUS. They also added a whole skate board system in the towns to improve speed in getting around as well as have fun. You just hop on and go and if you want to walk thats fine too! It's all the little things like that, plus a superb smooth plot that makes this game a solid winner.

  Kingdom Hearts II for PS2
Review created: 08/15/06

A great game. It follows the story of Sora, Donald and Goofy where we last saw this trio after deafeating Ansem, Seeker of Darkness. Sora is looking for his friends Riku and Kairi and Donald and Goofy are searching for King Mickey. Gaining the ability to use drive forms and help from none other than the King himself. To find out how to get all drive forms and summons, check my guide titled, 'How to get all Drive Forms/Summons on Kingdom Hearts 2'. This is a terrific game made by Square Enix and Disney. A very fun game to play. One of the best PS2 game series ever. Also look for Kingdom Hearts, which is the beginning of the story and look out for Kingdom Hearts III coming out in a few years.

This is a very excellent game from the very excellent company of Square Enix.

This game is chock full of action, adventure, and lots of cutscenes. I quickly jumped into this game right when I purchased it as it is a very addictive game despite the fact it isn't a puzzle game.

There are several characters from the Disney movies and Final Fantasy games you will meet along your quest to try and find Sora's friends. The amount you pay for this game is well worth it.

  A Game After Your heart
Review created: 04/21/06(updated 04/21/06)

4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

First off I would like to say this game is not for the die hard rpg fans. If you are looking for gameplay similar to the Final Fantasy series then this is not for you. I love this game mainly for it's graphics, vibrant colors, and the way Square-Enix & Disney molded there licensed characters together to make a fun and at time memorable gameplay experience. Almost every level is home to a new character who subs in for Donald or Goofy, be it Simba, Tron, Beast, Mulan, Jack Skellington or another. Still more can be summoned for brief cameos: Chicken Little, Genie, Stitch and Peter Pan. Most of those folks come with special team-up moves they can do with Sora, such as Mulan's dragon-powered meteor storm of blazing fireballs, or Stitch's oddly dangerous ukulele strumming. The game is fun and addictive and faint of short. Kingdom Hearts II is a definite buy I rate it 8.75/10

  Simple and Clean

"There are many worlds, but they share the same sky…One sky, one destiny."
What started as a random encounter between a Square Soft and Disney executive on an elevator has grown into one of the most epic collaborations since Yalta. The fruit of their union is Kingdom Hearts. In this action/RPG, the worlds of Disney and Final Fantasy cross-over, and familiar characters such as Cloud Strife and Donald Duck fight side-by-side with a host of original characters.
Sora, Donald and Goofy return to continue the search for Riku and King Mickey. But things have become more complicated than they expected. The soul devouring Heartless are still rampant in many worlds and Sora must use the keyblade to close the dark portals that let them in. As old adversaries return, new ones emerge with more mysterious intentions: A group named Organization XIII seeks to draw Sora into their fold by manipulating the strange creatures called Nobodies. Stranger still is that the members of this group seem to know Sora, but by a different name.If I said much more than that I wou be spoiling one of this games many plot twists. Expect the story to get intriguing right off the bat and continue to surprise you throughout. If you haven’t played the previous two games you might be confused at first but you’ll still be able to enjoy the game. With new enemies, Sora will need new powers to keep the darkness at bay, and there are many in this game. Your primary method of attacking is the keyblade, which can be equipped with various key chains that give it new forms and abilities. Sora can also unlock many new moves as the game continues. I like that none of the weapons are simply more or less powerful, they are just better suited for different play styles.Drives are probably the coolest and most powerful ability Sora has. After charging up the drive gauge by collecting spheres, Sora can absorb one or both of his companions to increase his own powers, giving the player about a minute of rampaging time. Different forms unlock special powers, including dual keyblade fighting and hyper magic abilities. Using the drives often will level them up, allowing you to eventually equip drive abilities in your regular form.Magic is much more useful this time around as your MP gauge will automatically recharge whenever you run out. You can set up to four spells with shortcut commands making them easily accessible. This is helpful since using magic through the menu is difficult and takes too long to be useful. Items (which are just as difficult to use through the menu) can also be assigned to shortcut commands, but this takes space away from your magical repertoire. Summon spells call a character to fight with you for a short time. If you don’t trust the AI, you can take direct control of their attacks.Reaction commands are another new addition that adds style to ordinary combat and can make boss battles seem like choreographed movie scenes. A green triangle appears over enemies when a reaction command is available. If the player hits the button in time, Sora will swing by their tail, deflect a shot at them or something else appropriate to the situation. In boss battles, these activate elaborate cut-scenes and require you hit the triangle button at several precise moments. If you learn how to trigger them, reaction commands can give you an edge over stubborn enemies. The hallmark of Kingdom Hearts is the ability to team up with your favorite Disney character.
