Before writing this review I'd like to tell everyone that yes I am a passionate kingdom hearts fan and yes I love the games as much as you. Also, I would not recommend buying this game if you have not already purchased the first 2 games. THe first Kingdom Hearts game is on Playstation 2, and if you have not bought it then you have not lived. Its a great game.
Storyline-10
All Kingdom Hearts games have excellent storylines and may even tear some up (I only cried a little, just don't tell anyone), and Square Enix delivers again (no surprise). Unlike the other three games you now play as Roxas, a member of organization 13, and his days joined therein. There is only a few new characters really, so most of these people are familiar faces (Yes, you can play as ANY member of Organization 13 on the missions which you unlock during the story line). This game helps add some light on what Organization 13 really is and how Axel and Roxas became friends.
Gameplay-9
The gameplay, like the gameboy version chain of memories, offers a little twist to what we have known and loved on the other Kingdom Hearts games. You now have panels and only a certain number are unlocked. You must fit your upgrades, weapons, abilities, magic, etc. in these panels. This makes characters VERY customizable. There are countless (well not that many around 20) different weapons to choose from, some excelling in magic, others strength, and others speed. Magic differs very little from the other games but is the same general idea. The reason I gave this a 9 is because the worlds are exactly the same (dont' expect any change from the transition from the old games to this one) and no new music was composed. This is easily looked past by the casual gamer and would probably not bother many anyway because the music is amazing and reliving old Disney movies never gets old.
Graphics-10
The graphics were beautiful for the cutscenes and this is only a DS game. I see them rival and even match those of the Playstation 2. Regretably, there are not as many as you hope for but are not too scarce either. The normal gameplay graphics are not too shabby and do not take away from the gaming experience. I was very impressed, it really added to the game's beauty.
Music-8
Yes the music is amazing, but they sort of lacked in this section. No new music accompanied 358/2 days and I was disappointed. The game deserved better. The old ones are still favorites of mine but could have been better.
Longetivity-10
There are challenge badges that unlock a challenge on every level and unity badges (unlocking a multiplayer level) It is also A LONG GAME. Not to mention the treasure chests.
Multiplayer-9
The multiplayer mode is fun and best of all, you can play as any member of Organization 13 you want! The missions are the same from 1 player, and lag is quite prevalent in 4 player matches. Almost perfect here.
Overall-9.5/10
Although there was no new music, Axel's amazing quote got way overused (got it memorized?) and the worlds were repetative, this game stands out as one of the elite on the DS. Definately worth buying even if you believe the DS is inferior to other systems. I only bought a DS for the New Super Mario Bros and Star Fox and haven't touched it since. This game brought back memories and made me play the DS again. It is cheaper than buying it on the large consoles and definately worth your money.
