Synopsis Frank Portman, of the Mr. T Experience, mines familiar territory--the humiliation and hijinks of high-school--with marvelous results. Like his main character Tom Henderson, an affable dork who craves nothing more than a blowjob and a band, Portman sets the bar low, then leaps over it with flying colors. Portman (via Henderson) is painfully funny, and his observations about bullies, girls, and the ignominy of adolescence are wry and astute. When the plot--a murder mystery no less--kicks in, it is surprisingly intricate, and completely engrossing. A Kirkus Best Children's Book of 2006.

Industry Reviews "A biting and witty high-school satire explores cross-generation mysteries and music. Tom...gains personal revelations that both reject and embrace his parents' generation and its Holden Caulfields, in a story richly flavored with 1960s cult novels and 1970s rock-and-roll." (03/15/2006)
"Musician/writer Portman has created an unforgettable character in Tom Henderson, the cynical but utterly charming high school narrator of his brainy, multilayered, outrageous, and compassionate first (!) novel." (05/12/2006)
