Best album ever: "Kind of Blue"

Even if you’ve never “gotten” Jazz before, you’ll be a fan after hearing Miles Davis’ masterpiece, “Kind of Blue.” No music collection is complete without “Kind of Blue,” whether this is your only Jazz album, or whether you have a library. “Kind of Blue” is an incredible musical journey, all the more remarkable since it was recorded on the first take without any prior rehearsing – it just couldn’t be improved. This also means it maintains the sense of spontaneity that is essential to Jazz and that is notably missing from many other Jazz recordings. “Kind of Blue” will appeal to any listener. Since first hearing it, it has never been off our CD player, and in fact, we have several copies of it around, and my two children have had their own in their rooms and have listened to it nightly since they were born. I never tire of listening to this album. Words are inadequate to describe “Kind of Blue,” it must be heard, and I recommend it to anyone. The world would be a much better place if everyone listened to this beautiful music.

  A Classic

This is considered by many as part of the basic jazz repertoire. The liner notes say this group did not rehearse before recording. Miles went over what he wanted to accomplish, then they rolled the tape and started to play. Amazing. If you like small combo jazz, you'll like this. Lots of Miles Davis' play with a stright mute throughout, for that familiar, bright, muted trumpet sound he's known for. With guys like Cannonball Adderley and John Coltrane, this album couldn't miss. Great classic small combo jazz.

Even if you aren't very fond of Jazz, the music of Kind of Blue by Miles Davis can give you a new appreciation of it. It's Jazz at it's best. With Miles Davis on the trumpet you can't help but be brought into a bit of Jazz heaven. The sound is rich and full on this remastered CD and you can appreciate that it is not tinny like the original recordings.

This is the quintessential jazz recording. If you have not heard this album buy it you will not be disappointed. It is hard to believe that this recording is over 50 years old. It just goes to show you how advanced the material was that Miles Davis was putting out in the 1956.

Even if you are not a fan of classic or modern jazz you will be hard pressed to find anything negative in this album.

Well my 14 year old has made me very proud he wanted this cd more than anything. What can I say this is one of the best jazz albums every recorded. I bought for my kid who is really developing his taste in music and what better album than "kind of blue".
Anyone with any knowledge of jazz knows Miles Davis. Buy the disk and soak it in.
Here's to you Mr. Davis thanks!!

I purchased this cd from Redtagmarket. This cd was defected with scratch from
mfg. (not Redtags fault). The 2nd cd was damaged as well with scratch at identical locations. Hope to get refund or a perfect copy returned to me.

  Banal, At Best!

This to me is a classic case of "The Emperor's New Clothes". Since this album has been on so many lists of 'essential recordings', 'jazz top 50 - 100', etc., I believe people are afraid of saying anything against it. I don't doubt Miles Davis's influence on music and his place in history. I honestly think this is not his best by any stretch of the imagination.

Even if you don't have any jazz music at all, this is the one CD to own. Originally recorded in 1959, "Kind of Blue" still sells over 5,000 copies per year and is the best selling jazz album of all time.

  Kind of Miles
Review created: 03/17/09(updated 04/05/09)

A definitive sign of the times is Miles' Kind of Blue. He once said that he was all about the blues and spent the remainder of his life after this masterpiece pursuing just that although his efforts to expand on his own musical expression took on many forms he always was about the blues. Possibly the most renown innovator in the history of jazz, demonstrating to the music world that music, especially jazz is first and foremost about exploration and movement and Miles never stayed long in one place. His efforts on this particular recording date once again demonstrates the artist's ability as a leader to captivate the listener and inspire his band to go in a different direction and change the landscape of tonal expression by giving the players the freedom to create on their own. He would continue seeking out new voices and spreading freedom of expression to all that followed those here. The ability to acquire and evaluate new talent in order to achieve fresh and deliberate new directions in music is present here and will always be what we remember about Miles

  Where is my Purchased Item??

It's been 17 days (February 24th) since I was informed my purchase item had been mailed out and still it is no where in sight? What's going on?

Frank Aceto

P.S. Why do you let such scam artist do business on Ebay? He takes my money and runs. Take him off your Ebay sellers and buyers list. How do I go about recovering my money? I guess I will have to contact the local police authorities and let them take care of this matter for me. WHAT A CON ARTIST THIS BRIAN IS!

An overpriced "Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis
Review created: 01/04/09
by:
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is a great remastered vinyl recording of "Kind of Blue" in 200 gram vinyl by Classic Records which is no longer being made. It has sound that is superior to the remastered CD version. We did a A B sound test with the same track on the turntable and on a sony ES CD Player. The album LP was unanimously voted the superior sound. I recommend this record!
However the EBay purchase was overpriced. I should have researched it more thoroughly. After paying $85.99 plus shipping for the album (which included a sealed bonus album "Decoy), I found the exact same new unopened album on a vinyl record website for $32.00 Live and learn. One needs to be very careful about buying on EBay in that sellers are often preying on buyers with prices that are way too high. I heard a nickname recently .... EPrey.

A masterpiece of a Genius of Music

Great record. A masterpiece of Genius of Music.
I love his music, I have this record with the original cover (like the vynil), and now I have this item with the cover changed about the original.
In this pic Miles seems like playing with left hand, but He played with the right hand, it was a mistake of Columbia in this version of the record.
