To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee (1988, Paperback, Reprint)

This book is a must read for people of almost any age. This book gives great detail of what it was like for African Americans, and how cruelly they were treated, and also the way things were dealt with back in the time (taking place in the south). This is by far one of the best books i have read. At first i was reluctant to read it because i usually like to read thriller, and action books, but this book changed my mind completely.
I give my utmost respect to the author of this book, and appraise his excellent literature. Harper Lee does a great job of capturing what life was like during the depression down in the south.
To appreciate the experience i had, as well as others, one must read the book for themselves (and not just watch the movie; the movie is different, and leaves out a lot of good parts from the book).

Absolutely classic novel about growing up in the old South, white/black justice and role-modeling heroism. Everyone should read this.

I thought it was an excellent story, applicable to today still. It made me laugh, cry and think about how we treat the people around us. It has a lot of depth regarding the prejudice that people hold not only against another race of people but against those who are different in anyway. We chose it for our reading group and we were not dissappointed. The book copy I received was exactly as described so I was not dissappointed regarding my purchase.

How can you NOT love Scout, the tomboy who gets into everything? The story of injustice and oppression seen through her young eyes is gripping, heart-warming and just plain great. Loved the movie, but the book is far better. Even if you have to read it because it's required reading for school, this is an alltime great story that is timeless. Not much has changed since it was written - people still judge each other cruelly and incorrectly. And other people still step up and do what they can to right the wrongs.

I bought the book "To kill a mockingbird", because my daughter needed it for school.
In addition, I do not recall reading it, so I will add it to my summer reading list.

I couldn't put this book down. I now know why it's an American classic. If only we all had the love and wisdone of Atticus in our lives. Scout would be a pleasure to meet, as well. Great characters, a realistic story, and (from my limited perspective) an accurate portrayal of race relations in the early 20th century.

It took me two years to finish reading the book. I didn't finish it the first time because I had to return it to my dormmate. Then, when our school's book club put it on their reading list, i remembered I haven't finished reading the book yet. So I took it out, and two weeks (+ 2 days of overdue) later, I'm done.

Must love it. Not really a big, big story. It's just how our perception of the world changes as we grow up. It's also about social justice. It's a good read. Scout Finch is just adorable.

The book actually won a Pulitzer Prize in the 60's.

My 13 year old daughter just finished reading this book, and absolutely loved it. It just shows that as old as this story is, ... the story is timeless. It was a great lesson learned in family, friendship, prejudice, and love. A must ready for everyone at some point in their life.

This was the book to start my reading career!! My son is 25 and I STILL call him BOO-Radley (His name is Bradley) If you are not a reader or have never read this book.... my plea to all is ...to read this book.
Harper Lee did an excellent job in depicting the characters.

This is my number one favorite book and I hope everyone including english class.. still read this book!

I had to buy this book for my daughter to read for school. Too bad she didn't get the book in time - had to find the book elsewhere 2 days before the test. Why? The story line was very interresting and really held your attention all the way thru. The only problem was one page was hard to read since it was torn almost all the way out of the book!

but we all know it's a classic. As an aside, when your school districts assign
it and the book stores are out of stock, you can count on eBay & half.com!

I've seen the film, but never read the book until it turned up on my summer reading list prior to entrance in law school. I couldn't put it down. Now I'm looking for other works by this author. Intelligent, charming, riveting. If you've never read it, you're missing out on a classic.
