Kiki's Delivery Service (DVD, 2003)

This movie is set in a period when airships still ruled the skies above!

The movie explores a coming-of-age story that shows the difficulties of being a young witch!

Of course she would have to have a talking cat as a companion being a witch right?!

So Kiki, the young witch, uses her skill at riding a broom to start an express delivery service in the big city she has just moved to!

Adults will enjoy the fine detail of the film's animation, while children will enjoy the story itself.

Other than having the theme of the movie being about a witch, the movie is good viewing for young children.

The unusual thing about this Japanese film is that it was dubbed in English by a young Kirsten Dunst who we all know now as Peter Parker's girl friend 'Mary Jane Watson' ! Everyone starts somewhere you know!!

This movie is very much like a coming-of-age story.

It's about a 12-year-old girl learning to become a witch just like her mother. She has to spend a year away from home in a different city. She chose a big city with the beautiful seascape. Witches weren't really popular in the city by the sea. She came across many problems like where to sleep, what to eat, how to make money, lost power of flight, and save a life. It is truly a sweet and delightful story perfect for both the young and old.

The opening (Soaring) and ending (I'm Gonna Fly) songs are really great. I believe it's both sung by Sydney Forest. Beautiful songs. Very encouraging and lovely.

Besides it's a Hayao Miyazaki movie, what's not to love?

I was flipping channels one late afternoon and found this cartoon. I don't watch many cartoons but the beautiful graphics made me pay attention. The story was somewhere in the middle and I was fascinated right away. The characters seemed true, the story line moved right along and the colors were great. Kiki has all the charm and the foibles of any young girl, and her friends and those she meets along the way ring true. The cat is just great, I have seen talking cats in other shows, they were all over played or just plain silly. This one is perfect.
The story of a young witch in training might not appeal to everyone, but once you realize it is the story of a young girl growing up and the obstacles she faces every day, and the people she meets along the way, while trying to learn her craft as she grows up. I think you will agree it is a charming tale like Cinderella. There are lessons to be learned for sure, but they are subtly told with great care.
My overall impression of what I saw made me want to see what of the movie I missed so I went directly to Ebay and Kiki's Delivery Service.
I watched it all the way through and came away with a good feeling! I think it's great for children but has a much wider audience, especially for those who don't enjoy the murder and mayhem and violence type of movies that are so common today.
The colors, the sound, the characters and the overall presentation of this movie are excellent in my opinion. When I shared it with my adult daughter, she thought it was delightful!

I bought this movie on a whim when it was on VHS about a decade ago and was at the store the day it came to DVD. This movie is one of the reasons I came to love anime so much. Add Spirited Away to the mix years later and I learned, if a film was by Hayao Miyazaki then it was a sure thing. Kiki's Delivery Service is about a young witch who must leave home for one year to become a full fledged witch and along the way learns that the only real way to succeed is by believing in yourself and letting others into your life. It is truly heartwarming and inspiring, and a great story for kids and adults alike.

This DVD arrived just as promised. Sealed and in perfect working order. I will buy from tis seller again. My 2 year old loves this movie and when she wears it out I'll be back.

Daughter loved this movie when young, kept talking about how she would like to see it again, so I bought it for her 17th birthday and she still loves it.

I grew up with a strongly Japanese-influenced upbringing, which included Ninja the wonderboy, Taro Dragonboy and Totoro. Kiki is a wonderful Miyazaki film that is sweet and dynamic enough to hold my children's attention (as hyper-active as they are).

This may be a old film its still one of the best a must see for any one who love anime, animation or just movies.

I couldn't find this movie any place that I looked and I knew at least one person had to have it on ebay.

It is a Beautiful Anime Disney movie about an adolescent witch who finds herself in the world. It it a Wonderful adventure for everyone.

what is not to love about this adorable movie. imagination is a beautiful gift to have and also share with your children keep their eyes new. let them stay in thete play ground as long as they can i recommend this movie for any young in mind and spirit and especially for children

I loved the way how the creater made it feel like you were part of the movie. The movie was great, there was nothing wrong with it.

This is my daughters favorite movie. I would recommend it for any child ages 5 to 15. It is about a child finding her way in the world of modern day life and magic.

I have been collecting movies directed by Hayao Miyazaki for myself and my kids. We enjoy them all greatly. Great stories with great lessons.

It's just a brilliant movie. Probably the best (or at least my personal favorite) from the genius and famed director, Hayao Miyazaki. It's hard to find actual fault with this movie as the animation, apart with being very well drawn, is flawless. The storyline may be simple, though extremely well done, though it does have some interesting plot twists and developments (some similiar to Spiderman 2). It's rather pointless to repeat a brief overview of that plot since it is listed already.

But needless to stay it is an enchanting story and anyone who is a fan of anime or just good movies in general should definitely check this movie out. You will not be disappointed. No one I have recommended it to as of yet has been.

this is one of Hayao Miysaki's great movies. for children and those people that are still awake in this world-- you will love this movie - learning how to get along in the world movie for a young girl who is a witch apprentice. good for boys and girls. great fun, animation, and storyline. the best of Japanese animation. check out his other movies. you will not be disappointed.

One of the greatest animated moves ever created. Something that the whole family can enjoy and no anime collection is complete with out.

This is simply a delightful film about a young (13) witch setting out into the world. The only magical skill is that she can fly on a broomstick and can talk to her black cat. Somehow this movie is rated PG, but it couldn't be more of a G if it tried.

The story is very simple. The young witch moves to a new city and makes the friendship of a young couple who run a bakery. They give her lodging up in the attic of the building they own. She soon starts a successful delivery service and makes the acquaintance of a boy her own age who is smitten with her. Somehow after a while she loses her ability to fly which grounds her delivery service. The denouement comes when her friend is imperiled and only her flying skill can save him.

This is just a wonderful movie and suitable for all ages.
