Album Notes KIDS IN AMERICA is a collection of songs by the top ten finalists from the American Juniors competition. American Juniors: A.J. Melendez, Taylor Thompson, Chantel Kohl, Chauncey Matthews, Danielle White, Jordan McCoy, Tori Thompson, Morgan Burke, Katelyn Tarver, Lucy Hale. Producers: Nigel Wright, Tim Lever, Mike Percy. Considering the phenomenal success of the original AMERICAN IDOL television series and resulting hit albums, a junior version of the concept was the next logical step. While many expected to see nothing more than a bunch of pre-pubescent talent-show rejects butchering classic songs, most were pleasantly surprised to find that the best of these young performers were as good or better than many of their older Idol counterparts. KIDS IN AMERICA lays out the case for all to hear, as Lucy, A.J., and the rest of the gang storm through a selection of first-rate and markedly adult material with energy, panache, and surprisingly mature interpretive skills. Highlights include Chauncey Matthews's passionate reading of the Peabo Bryson/Regina Belle hit "A Whole New World" (from Disney's ALADDIN) and Taylor Thompson's joyful romp though the Ike & Tina Turner arrangement of "Proud Mary." In addition to the great fun of hearing these children giving it their all, it's nice to know that a new generation has officially been introduced to the excitement of songs written before their parents were born.
