Khartoum (DVD, 2002)

This review of the DVD movie (2002 issue of a much older movie) is written with no knowledge of the potential seller. Interested in current news? Like Darfur in Sudan? Then "Khatroum" can enlarge your knowledge back over 100 years when the British were involved in Sudan and it appears to be more timely now than it was 20 years ago. An excellent cast, based on historical facts, and absolutely great photography. It's basically the late-1800s story of Gordon (Heston) who is called upon to single-handedly defend Khartoum against the Mahdi army which has risen in revolt to the British influence. The DVD format seems to clean up the film a bit and the audio-visuals are better than the VHS versions. Please note the review is based on the movie, not the seller.

Charlton Heston is a great actor, I like his performance in most of his known films.

After his outstanding appearance in "Ben Hur" and also in "The Ten Commandments" there were few more films where he performed very good as a leading role. Khartoum is undoubtedly one of them.

The film recreates in detail the era of the British colonialism in Africa.

An excellent movie about the height of the British Empire in Africa. Only slightly Hollywoodized (No battle stops when a major character steps out of his room to join the battle!) Charleton Heston was a perfect choice for the role of 'Chinese' Gordon, Ralph Richardson did a great job portraying PM Gladstone, and Sir Lawrence Olivier did a masterful job as the Mahdi. If you want to gain an insight into the contemporary troubles of the middle east, then watch this movie!

I must said that the quality of the DVD is very good and the presentation is also very good, the problem that I had was with the time that I spent waiting for the product..more than 1 month, and I bought another DVD before, and that one just took like a week to arrived.- (from different sellers) so, my rating will be Average, a middle between the good quality of the dvd, and the time that I spent waiting for it.-

This is a great movie and is exactly what I had hoped it would be! This movie has a great cast,lots of action and is well directed!! This is a movie that shuld be in every video library!Charlton Heston gives a the performance so many of us have expected from this actor and as only he can - a flawless performance is given! The locations and scenery are excellent and are a great backdrop to an exciting story. If you have a pulse and enjoy action movies with a great story, a great cast and are combined into one great flick- this is a must see movie!!!

This is wonderful classic epic adventure that should be in everyone's DVD collection. Box Office stars, outstanding acting, and plenty of action. It is a true to life story of actual happenings.

I was expecting a well acted Hollywood action flick and I got it. What I was not expecting was such a great historically accurate movie. I have just finished reading several books on the exploration of the Nile and thought it would be interesting to see how they compared. With very few exceptions, such as the meetings between General Gordon and the Maddi the story was very accurate. I think they may have missed out on not covering the rescue attempt in more detail but all in all a very enjoyable and informative movie. Afterall "Moses" played General Gordon! It had to be great.

I liked this movie because it is telling what went on in the past is still being played out today, in north africa, along the Nile River

Lawrence Oliver is fantastic, and unrecognizable. Heston is noble and strong. Based on fact, but certain scenes fictionalized, it is a fascinating look into exceptional people and situations.

I purchased this film because I had some fond memories of a few good scenes featuring Heston and Olivier. But, although this film must have been very expensive to make and was highly touted, it turned out to be a lavish mess and a terribly boring film. It's absolutely amazing that a film featuring such fine and famous actors as Charlton Heston and Laurence olivier could be so terribly tedious and blatantly bland; a lemon - without flavor.

I also had to wait way too long for Internet sale item to be delivered. I never saw this movie during the time it was in Theaters. I have always liked Chucky in the Big Production features that he took part in. Historical period Movies are a favorite genre of mine. A cast of Thosands, is always better than CGI. This story was more about poor Politcal ventures, and attitudes of the time, as well as, undersestimating the strength of the Foe when it comes to a Millitary involvement. It's best to kick butt, get it over with, then go home. Or, don't bother in the first place.

It's great to be able to find older movies like this one! The delivery was very speedy, and the DVD arrived in perfect condition. I would definitely buy from this vendor again.
