I loved this dark comedy! Rowan Atkinson and Maggie Smith are perfect. Atkinson plays a vicar in a small town who is under the thumb of his congregation and so worried about his church that he doesn't find the time to show the needed attention his wife, Kristin Scott, so very much wants! Patrick Swayze plays a leacherous American golf pro who puts the moves on all the women, but in particular Atkinson's wife because she is sorely in need of attention! In steps the new housekeeper (Smith) who proceeds to put all personal crisis to "sleep" in her own special way. I know death shouldn't be funny, but that's what a dark comedy is about, and it does it delightfully. You find yourself rooting for Smith. Who hasn't wanted all the bad people in their lives to just disappear? I highly recommend this movie. Between Atkinson and Smith it's a keeper!

This motion picture is excellent entertainment for mature audiences without the typical graphic violence and excessive noise of today's movies. It is funny, suspenseful, somewhat outrageous and well-acted and type-cast. Most everyone will enjoy it; I sent it to my son.

I must say first of all that I DID NOT dislike any part of this movie. It was great. The housekeeper was awesome...you loved her right off and then you finally see who she is and what she really does but you still love her and her point of view. The family she goes to work for has all types of problems from sex to sex. Once again I loved the movie and would suggest it. I laughed, I gasped, and I laughed some more. Great movie!

We enjoy good movie that has humor and a happy ending (why see a movie with a sad ending you can just read a paper instead) Also the British seems to have better movies now days than Hollywood and better actor-actress-es

Great comedy, something adults and children can enjoy! Funny, clean humour. The characters are well-acted. Maggie Smith and "Mr. Bean" lead a stellar cast. Unpredictable but sweet.

First watched on cable, love English humor light hearted film with a plot that rolls along with a few surprising twists and turns a some LOL. Very nice addition to my English movie collection. I would recommend to a friend. Have already shared with one who enjoyed it almost as much as I do. She had a hard time understanding the English speak. I don't think its difficult, I think we where laughing and talking so much she just wasn't listening to what was said.
