Katy Hudson by Katy Perry (CD, Oct-2001, Red Hill)

I bought this for three reasons: 1) I like Katy Perry's new music, 2) I am a fan of Christian rock, 3)I was curious as to what Katy Perry sounded like when she recorded Christian rock under the name of Katy Hudson as a teenager. After hearing the CD I was not disappointed, but the CD was not really outstanding either. It's Christian pop, not unlike what Joy Williams sounded like when she was a teenager. Like Perry, Williams also took on a edgier rock sound but still recorded in the Christian genre. Although Katy Perry is under fire from Christian groups for her new rock persona and songs like "I Kissed a Girl" and "You're So Gay," she was still doing Christian music as recently as 2006 when she sang on a P.O.D. album. Getting back to the Katy Hudson debut, it's definitely for hardcore Katy Perry fans who want everything she has ever recorded; but the album itself is mainly forgettable pop tunes.
