Good Workout

I'm a major fan of step aerobics. The repetition and "fanny focus" isn't for everybody, but consistent effort returns major results for me. Kathy smith's Power Step Workout is a good (not excellent) workout. There's a warm-up, three separate step routines (with increasing difficulty) and a cool down. After the end of any of the step routines you have the option to fast forward to the cool down.
Why it's a good workout: you sweat, your heart rate reaches its goal and there's enough variety to keep you interested.
Why it's not an excellent workout: Sometimes the moves are described while the camera is showing Kathy et al from the shoulders up, my pet peeve with workout videos. So it takes a little longer to catch on because you aren't seeing the moves while they're being described.
Also, while I love the increasing difficulty and intensity of the three step sections, the third section seemed much more complicated than the second section. The first two sections are very basic and athletic and reasonably paced. The pace in the third section (particularly the single lunge pattern) is just too challenging for me (and I've been stepping for ten years). But with modifications, it's a nice addition to my library of step tapes/DVDs.
