Stephen King's latest anthology of short stories, Just After Sunset, is quietly dazzling. It is an album of snapshots of his ability to erode the membrane between light and dark, to make the reader believe that any person, given the proper circumstances, could slip into a universe that's not quite right. Weird things happen in these tales, but they are not necessarily horrifying. The characters are living, often unawares, on the edge of reality.
This latest collection of tales reminds the reader that King's characters don't always die in his short stories. Some of his unfortunates tumble into strange pockets and find themselves unable to get out. Or the opposite happens: They manage to flee against all odds and reclaim normality, or at least a tenuous substitute.
As with his previous collections, this anthology presents the feeling that there are these masses of people out there waiting to be dragged into something that will change, even end, their life as they know it. Just After Sunset does this better than his previous collections. The unsettling "Willa," set in a Wyoming railroad station, is the closest thing to an original "Twilight Zone" episode to be written in years. In "N."- one of the most unorthodox pieces in the collection- King meditates about death.
Just After Sunset stands for all that Stephen King has become to his readers: a gateway between us and them, between here and there. If you love King, you'll enjoy this eclectic bouquet of short stories that is not, in the end, about darkness itself, but twilight- that gray, uneasy land that lies between the prosaic texture of human days and the unending desolation of the night.

great stories, typical stephen king. fun, thought-provoking, even a little scary. i have read all his stuff, been a fan for years. had read a few of the stories before (N appeared on Borders web site as a cartoon; The Gingerbread Girl ran in a magazine) i bought it because i buy everything king does. i got it as a book on tape, rather than in print. there were different readers for every story, and king reads the first one himself. i loved his summary at the end, telling his motivation for each of the stories. is one of his best, by far.

For all you long-time fans of Stephen King novels, here's a quick fix. This is a collection of shorties that King wrote over the length of his career. Some of the stories are very old and others very new. HIs ability to entertain remains the same. The mini novels were a welcome change to his huge books and series. This book of mini's is like having a good batch of appetizers to snack on when you don't have time for a full meal. Highly recommended reading/eating. Enjoy!

This is an anthology of previously published short stories with the exception of one. If you are a King fan, you'll end up getting this because of the one you haven't read. You may not have seen all of these because of the magazine vareity and dates of publication.

Just After Sunset by Stephen King 2008, Unabridged, CDI often travel through mountain areas where radio reception is not good so, a few months back I bought my first audio book and I was hooked! It is great being able to have a good book read to you while you travel. I recently purchased this one and it is great! I am finding audio books are a lot of fun, just like when I was a kid and we listend to stories on the radio! I would highly recommend this collection, if you like Stepehen King, you will enjoy this one very much!

Just After Sunset CDI've only listened to 3 stories so far and they all were under par. Kept waiting for that " on the edge of your seat" feeling and it never happened. Maybe it's still to come. I've finished it. Only one story sticks out in my mind and that's it. If I would have paid retail for this, I'd have been mad.

I LOVE Stephen King!I purchased the entire audiobook because I had listened to The Gingerbread Girl. Each story in Just After Sunset is good to the last word! I couldn't wait to get in my car to run errands, drop off and pick up children! I find it best to listen in the car. It makes my trip time seem too short. Sometimes I'd sit in the parking lot or my driveway waiting for the end of a chapter! Although there was one very short story relating to 9/11 that I listened to but upset by, it is due to Stephen King's ability to write so that you are absorbed into the story! The longer of the stories (N. and Stationery Bike were my favorites). This audiobook is great for the Stephen King fan on the go! As stated, I listen in my car. If you are commuting to work, listen on an a portable CD player. You'll be at your destination before you know it, and maybe wishing you weren't! :)

This collection of short stories is classic King - suspencefull, unexpected endings and a cliff you might or might not keep from falling off. He hasn't released very many short stories in awhile, Gingerbread Girl and Stationary Bike, available alone, are included in this collection. Bottom line - King rocks!
