Juiced by Jose Canseco (2005, Hardcover)

I would not recommend this book to anyone under 13 because of some inappropriate content, but for an adult, this book is an outstanding read. Although you can tell that Jose Canseco is not a good author, he portrays the story in a great, controversial, and entirly different way.

Why read this? If you want to know what the steriod era was all about, who juiced, and what happened,according to player who claims he started it, this book is for you.

well i am half way through the book and it is nothing spectactular but it does bring to laight one person's view of how major league baseball is run and how the media controls what we hear about. not as much about the steroids as i would have liked and not really that many names. oh well.

In 1986, I was nine when my dad took me to Milwaukee County Stadium to see the up and coming Jose Canseco for the first time. We went to see the Milwaukee Brewers battle the Oakland A's, but we also went early and stayed late to try to catch Canseco in the players parking lot for an autograph. We got it! I'll never forget seeing him in street clothes and seeing his bulging (shaved, nonetheless) forearms for the first time. I'm glad this book confirms that what I saw was not natural. Ever since I was a kid, I aspired to become a Major Leaguer. My teen and early twenty years, I put in countless of hours of training in the weight room but my arms never got anywhere near what I saw that afternoon in 1986. I was drafted by the California Angels in 1995 and released from the team in 1996. I never touched the steroids, and unfortunately many players did. I sometimes wonder what my chances of making it to the show would have been if I competed in an even playing field, or if I decided to take the roids myself.

I CANT WAIT TO READ THIS BOOK. IVE TRIED FOR WEEKS AND OUR LITTLE LIBRARY DONT HAVE THIS BOOK YET. I HAD TO HAVE THEM ORDER IT AND I DONT EVEN KNOW IF THEY ARE GOING TO ORDER IT. AT LEAST THIS WAY I WILL BE ABLE TO READ IT AT MY OWN PACE AND DONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT HURRYING IT ALONG.

great book about the steroid use in baseball when I read it when it first came out a lot of people were skeptical about canseco but now they must agree with a lot of what he said, easy read.

Love Jose Canseco or hate him -- I got to tend to believe all that he wrote in his much maligned book. The one thing that really sold me on his truthfulness was the fact that he said he'd take a lie detector test to prove all / and challenged anyone he named in the book to do the same. I bought the book out of curiosity and am glad I did -- I now think that he (Canseco) is probably the only one of the bunch that is telling the truth!

This book is written in the voice of Jose Canseco, so it kind of sounds like a high school boy wrote it. Canseco brings up some interesting points about steroids and why he feels that every athlete should take a balanced diet of steroids and hormones. If you are looking for juicy gossip on players who Canseco has informed or injected with steroids it is there, but you have probably already heard of the bigger names mentioned through the media in the past couple of years. This makes it less of a shock because most of the information on steroid abuse of major stars has already been leaked all over the radio and television. It is interesting to hear how Canseco feels he single handedly brought steroids to baseball by mentioning all the major players in the steroid scandals. Along with steroids, Canseco talks about his love of cars(which is pretty annoying), his ex wives, the birth of his daughter, and the players union and owners hiding the steroid scandel to promote baseball interest after the strike of 1994. Overall if you are a baseball fan you will probably make it through the book. If you aren't, the voice of Canseco will probably be annoying and cause you put it down.
