Joy of Cooking 75th Anniversary Cookbook

I was given my 1st "Joy of Cooking" cookbook many, many years ago as a wedding shower gift and since them it has been the one basic book I always refer back to, even though I have over 600 other cookbooks. Needless to say the binding is coming apart and pages slipping loose, and some food stains, so I was delighted to see a new 75th anniversary edition of this fantastic book that should be given to every new cook. I saw only a few problems with the new cookbook.....the editing on some of the recipes left out ingredients in the final step or put in the wrong amounts. I hope they can correct this mistake because a teaspoon of baking powder is NOT the same as a tablespoon in baking and when do you add that broth? An experience cook will know the difference but a beginner may end up with a mess. I did notice a few favorite recipes are gone that were in the older copy I have so I will keep that one as a back up. If possible, find a 1970 or 80's copy of this cookbook to keep along with the newer version.

This is THE BEST cookbook - no home should be without it. My wife & I give them as wedding gifts. The only problem we occasionally encounter is when they are not packaged well and the corners of the book get bent. Then, they are not good for wedding gifts. Our latest purchase was PERFECT - books were well packaged and protected.

I've wanted this book for sometime...I really do like it to...It has good reading in it and some good receipes also...I haven't been through the whole book yet, but what I've been through, I would recommend anyone that has thought about buying to do so..I think they would enjoy also...I got a great price for it on Ebay....A lot cheaper than going to a Book store to buy...There may be some that wouldn't like it, but I rate it Excellent...I do not regret buying it at all!!!!!

When I first looked at this book, including the old versions, I felt the book does not have any end result pictures. I thought it was not interesting since I have to look at the food picture to be able to follow a recipe. During a occasional trip to the library, I picked up this new 75th anniversary book and started reading it in detail. Then I discovered it's wonderful book full of recipes which are easy to follow. After a tested a few recipes, I think they are really great recipes. Highly recommended as a must have in the kitchen if you cook.

The New & Improved Joy of Cooking

I love the 75th Edition of the Joy of Cooking. It merges great all purpose cooking information from the past with modern convience foods & kitchen equipement we have today like food processors, microwave ovens ect. I don't really need the information the old version had about how to skin animals & remove feathers. It's interesting, but luckily I'll never have to do it!

I bought this book because the ancient copy my late mother in law gave me from her cookbook library is falling appart. When I found one half of the book on my bookself and one half in the kitchen I decided it was time to buy a new copy. Joy of Cooking has recipes for the food my husband grew up eating.

The only thing I do not like about this book is there are no dividers to tell you which chapter is where. You have to look at the index or glossery. I'm used to the Good House Keeping Cookbook that has tabs for differnat subjects, poultry, soup, bread and so forth.

  The Joy of Cooking easy

I happened upon a copy of this book years ago while working at a library. It was by far the best, comprehensive, helpful book, if you spend any time in a kitchen. My years in the kitchen were always stressed by some aspect of cooking that was not addressed in the specialty cookbooks I had already picked up. This book covers it all - no cook should be without it. My daughter-in-law loves it (shes a newly wed), and now does not have to call me with those questions that are basic to cooking and baking. I love this book.

  Joy of Cooking
Review created: 09/04/09

BEST cookbook of all-time! I always put the Joy in my cooking. Easy to understand recipes with accurate cook times. Easy to find recipes and a great appendix. Talks about different cuts of meat, etc. Gives measurement equivalents (ounces-gallons, etc). I bought this Joy for a friend who is getting married.

  Got to have this book!
Review created: 05/09/09

I love this book! It has a recipe for almost anything, even of different cultures (Italian, Asian, Spanish, etc). Most everything that I have tried has a recipe for making food from scratch, which I love. You don't need all the extra stuff from the store. If you have the staples of a good pantry, you are set! My mom didn't teach me how to cook, so mac and cheese from a box was my idea of a homecooked meal, not anymore! I have learned so much from this book. It talks about different cuts of meat and how to prepare it, and more much more. Love, Love, Love!
