1974's JOY TO THE WORLD was actually Three Dog Night's second greatest hits, compilation, after the popular GOLDEN BISCUITS, most of which this double-album-length set repeats. All of the group's biggest singles are here.
By 1974, Three Dog Night no longer dominated the singles chart and AM radio the way they did from 1969 to 1972, and the only decision in most purchasers' minds will be whether to buy this or the two-disc CELEBRATE: THE THREE DOG NIGHT STORY. CELEBRATE has been remastered and therefore has better sound, and is much more detailed. JOY TO THE WORLD, on the other hand, is the creme de la creme of the Three Dog Night catalogue, and unlike CELEBRATE, which favors the mono single mixes of some songs, is all in stereo, for those of you who think stereo is automatically superior.
