Journey Through Zimbabwe by Mohamed Amin (1991)
Having traveled to Zimbabwe 9 times over the past 40 years, this is perhaps the best 'coffee table' style book to remember this beautiful country. Not only are the Victoria Falls depicted, but the entire country including Harare, Bulawayo, the Eastern Highlands, the Zimbabwe Ruins, Lake Kariba, Hwange National Park, and the Midlands are all represented by great photographs.
This review is being written in early 2009, and much has changed in Zimbabwe since publication of this book. Awful political repression, hyperinflation and disease have turned this once bread-basket of southern Africa into an awful place where fully one third of the population has fled. Of course the natural beauty of Zimbabwe is still there as shown in the photographs of this book. Although few tourists risk going to Zimbabwe now, one hopes that eventually things will change again.
