I bought this book because I was struggling to desire God fully with my heart. I was in a rut that I could not seem to get out of. Eldredge really put it point blank on why I was doing the things I was doing. In this book it explained to me why I had lost all joy in life. I think when I began reading this book I thought it was going to give me the answers to some meaningful life that never felt right to me. He said clear out this book isn't going to help you ful fill you life completely. Once he said that I realized many things going on. It helps you work through problems that you may never have felt as problems. This book was very blunt at some points and I did not appreciate it at the time but it was just the right cup of tea I needed.

This book helped break the lock on my thinking. I knew that I wanted to know and love God, but even looking in all the "right" places left me wanting. John Eldredge explains the major overall impetus behind each of our lives; and, although it is right in front of our faces, we miss it. Missing it leaves us not fully alive, lonely, wanting and feeling we or something is sorely amiss. Listening to your heart, the place of your desire, guides you to your truth and your purpose.
