John Mayer - Where The Light Is: John Mayer Live In Los Angeles (Blu-ray Disc, 2008)

I bought this as a gift for my brother for Christmas, I have not viewed the item but Im sure its great because the item is brand new and still sealed.

I love John Mayer, and you making me have a blu ray disc with his concert is awesome. Thanks, it was a lot cheaper than the store too so I saved money and I enjoyed the concert.

Absolutely INCREDIBLE!!!! Best concert footage that I've ever seen, especially since it's available in BluRay. It feels like you're actually there in person with a front row seat. Don't hesitate to buy this. It's a no-brainer for even the moderate John Mayer fan. It will immediatly catapult you into a huge fan of his music. This concert is especially unique because you get to see John perform an acoustic set, followed by his small band John Mayer Trio, and then with the full band for an incredible symphony of sound. I hope you enjoy this as much as I continue to. I've watched it probably 20 times and I've only had it for a few months. It's that addicting. My favorite song of the entire concert is the acoustic set, "Free Falling". John Mayer continues to exceed expectations and "Where the Light Is" is no exception.

I wouldn't exactly call myself a John Mayer fan. I respect his work and think he's a very talented musician. That said, I saw some of his trio stuff on youtube from this show, as well as some of the acoustic stuff. I thought, since it was filmed in 35mm 1080p full resolution, it would be a great show to watch on my new 50" 1080p plasma, along with my surround system. Sure enough, the picture on Blu Ray was AMAZING, and the sound was just as flawless. The highs and lows were balanced perfectly, the mix really sharp, and it just really gave the feeling of being at the show. Not to mention, the camera work is great. It gives the show tremendous dynamics.

I do think, however, that many of the songs are very much for actual John Mayer fans. I couldn't identify with many of the tracks, but a lot of the Trio songs were fun to watch and see/hear John cut loose on some Stevie Ray Vaughn type solos. I guess, in retrospect, I really am not familiar with THAT many John Mayer songs, so if you are a little more familiar with his stuff, you'll probably enjoy it more than I did. I gotta add, though, that his cover of Free Falling (by Tom Petty) is just amazing. Gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.

Overall, though, great DVD, that's totally worth shelling out a little extra cash for the Blu Ray, as the perfect sound and picture quality make the show that much better.

John Mayer has a very expansive talent which allows him to be a great songwriter. He also has a tremendous ability to express the sound. I really like how he can take a less popular genre and shine the light on it. Great dvd!!!
