John Carpenter's Ghosts of Mars (DVD, 2001, Special Edition)

Police Lieutenant Melanie Ballard (Natasha Henstridge From 'Species') is ordered to explain What exactly happened at Shining Canyon (Mars) and where the rest of her team mates were, to The Head Police Councel. She starts the movie out by telling the story from start to end. During the movie it switches back and forth from her talking and them actually being.
So, your in a ride for heads being cut off or necks being sliced, bodies being mutilated (Peirced, Chains through the skin of the neck, knives and nails through the face & nose), burned, teeth in jars and scissors hanging from the ceiling. They spared no expense on the gruesome details. Yet, I didn't find myself jumpy on the edge of my seat. It was more gory than scary. They have some pretty 'fashionable' weapons I might add.
Ice Cube (from: Torque, Are We There Yet?) played Desolation Williams(an 'extremely dangerous convict'). The team went to Shining Canyon to bring him back to Chryste (home base). He fit well into his Character. After they made such a big deal about how dangerous he was, he ended up teaming up with the Police and didn't seem like the 'Mr. Tough Guy' he was supposed to be.
You might also recognize Jason Statham (from: The Italian Job, Cellular, or The Transporter). He is always hitting on Lt. Ballard when he gets the chance, and is the genius for unlocking/picking high tech mechanisms. Plays in about 1/3 the movie, since the Story is told From Lt. Ballards view.
The color is slim to none, and the story ends the same as it began pretty much. Something you can't see possessing anything that tries to claim it's planet. So, you don't see ghosts. You get some dirt and paint covered humans possessed, dressed in ripped clothing with their bodies mutilated and teeth sharpened, acting like 'smart zombies'. Oh wait! There was ONE scene where Lt. Ballard was able to see what their plans were, and what they 'used' to look like before they went dormant. Im sorry, forgot about that ONE scene.

Anyway, there's profanity, killing/gore, Little 'BOOMS', but no nudity. So Shocking. Kidding.

My opinion? Average. Interested? Don't pay too much for it. Happy Watching!

Not your run of the mill horror movie. Think of the same style of Big trouble In Little China but instead of an action/comedy its more of an action/horror movie and thats bassically what ghosts of Mars is.
If theres not an ass kicking scene on the screen its always an interesting or suspenceful piece of the story. Not some uninteresting or worthless scene (pop culture tributes and stupid sterotypes like jocks, geeks and girly girls *cough* SyFy *cough*) that dosent contribute to the plot of the movie to help 'fill' it. A strong cast of characters with meaningful dialog. A movie you have to at least see once, very underrated.

spirits. This was a good film that remains one of Carpenter's
last and wish he would make more. This dvd has decent picture
and sound plus interesting extras. If you like John Carpenter
films, this is a good one to get.

I like this type of movie and wanted to add it to my collection. The story-line leaves a bit to be desired and the acting isn't always the best, but it's a good movie to sit back and relax with. There's plenty of action and some of the scenes are quite good. As a spooky space flick, I give it a thumbs-up.

Bad SCIFI flick. Porr acting. VERY BAD CONCEPT. I am a big Statham fan, I guess he did this for a paycheck bc not his typical good stuff.

Bought it cause it was cheap. What a waste of time. Terrible acting and effects. Looks like they used ONE crappy set for the entire movie. Has a very "low budget" feel to it. This is a PASS.

As with most movies made in this ridiculous countryin this age, it was amatuerish, poorly written, plotless, totally devoid of any acting talent; in short--it sucked.

I bought this as a birthday present for a friend but watched it first :) I thought it was a good movie. It moved pretty fast and kept my interest.

The movie got horrible ratings from critics, but i must say i loved it, awesome action, funny, and kept me watching.

I watched that, other side showed good closed caption, good actions, so on but I really didn't like the way negros and latinos talks very foul words/languages, just like L.A. gangs. Horrible behaviors. I refused to watch this again, throw it away in trash next day. By a way, don't watch this bad movie.

Wanted to own this title because it is one of the best modern day example of Sci-Fi filmmaking and not just an excuse to bring droolling Monsters, S&M cruelty or over amped ghouls to the screen. Good story and good acting and a film that unfolds before your eyes!

Got my movies on time, I would buy from this person again. I all of them came at the same time in one box.

I am a big fan of John Carpenter. So anytime i can find movies by him that i do not already have is great. Also, I have enjoyed dealing with the people that i make my purchases from. E-bay has been a great source of enjoyment for me. I have found things at much cheaper prices and the movies that i have purchased have all been in excellent condition.

Ok alot of my friends say they can not handle alot of gore and violence and does not understand how I can....Well to me in a movie it is all fake and I love how people can come up with effects and such to make you think that it is real.. It just amazes me..Ghost of Mars is an exellant movie..It is a must see and make sure to watch it with the lights out because it is a kinda dark movie through out the whole movie okay but it is a very good movie!!!
