Synopsis The story of Joey Pigza, a seriously hyperactive boy who has been living with his grandmother since being abandoned by both his mother and father. When Joey's mother returns, Joey must find a way to let her back into his life while also dealing with more and more problems at school. Although he's on medication to control his behavior, Joey still has problems paying attention, sitting still, and generally keeping out of trouble. His frustrated mother and teachers attempt to cure Joey's problems by enrolling him at a new school.
To the constant disappointment of his mother and his teachers, Joey has trouble paying attention or controlling his mood swings when his prescription medications wear off and he starts getting worked up and acting wired.

Publisher's Note
Joey Pigza can't sit still. He can't pay attention, he can't follow the rules, and he can't help it -- especially when his meds aren't working. Joey's had problems ever since he was born, problems just like his dad and grandma have. And whether he's wreaking havoc on a class trip or swallowing his house key, Joey's problems are getting worse. In fact, his behavior is so off the wall that his teachers are threatening to send him to the special-ed center downtown. Joey knows he's really a good kid, but no matter how hard he tries to do the right thing, something always seems to go wrong.
