Joe Versus the Volcano (DVD, 2002)

Tom Hanks & Meg Ryan star in this average ho-hum movie. They both wind up on island where the natives want to sacrifice them to a volcano. Both characters are likable - but this isn't really an exciting movie. Not bad for a rainy day when your'e home sick with the flu and all that's on is the home shopping channels - but don't cancel party plans over watching this one.

My favorite Tom and Meg film. Love it, I will be sharing it with Friends and Family. Totally safe for the whole family to watch. Love the Luggage.

First off, they billed this movie originally (I believe) as a Comedy. It's not. Not in the slightest. There's a little humor sprinkled in here and there, but this movie will most likely not make you laugh unless you're a complete flake.

What it is about is waking up. It's about unwittingly going through life with your eyes almost fully closed and learning how to open them. It's a sublime demonstration of how a person might cast off their pre-conceived notions- the chains that bind them- and begin to live with awareness and intention. Most of all, it's about discovering what love really is and finding the courage to be a whole person.

There's actually some blatant symbolism here and there, and the dialogue is quite good and quite intentional- almost every word. If you watch this without thinking about it, it could be perceived as a pretty frivolous movie. But if you can appreciate that it has a message- a message of hope and the hidden potential that we all have within us- it's a very profound and satisfying piece of work.

The most important things in life are often subtle. Whether you're grasping them or miss them entirely, it's possible not to ever truly comprehend what you're doing. Joe Versus the Volcano is that way, too. It doesn't beat you over the head with its point- it uses a very light touch. Check it out. Wake up.

I saw this once and thought it was ok, watched it again and caught myself laughing at things I missed. After watching it a couple of times after that I realize that this is one of the silliest, funniest movies I've ever seen.

I am not a fan of Meg Ryan so I was surprised how much I liked her in this. She plays 3 characters and does them very well. Tom Hanks is always great as the regular guy caught in extraordinary situations.

Joe is a hypochondriac who after being told he has a "brain cloud" and does not have long to live decides to jump into a volcano. A rich man offers him the trip of a lifetime if at the end of the trip he jumps into the volcano to appease the gods and save a tribe who loves orange soda. Meg Ryan pays 3 different women who Joe seems to like, and he actually falls for the third one.

Very funny and smart, highly recommended. Still, may not be for everyone but it deserves a shot - the more you watch it the better it gets!

This mystical movie with two super stars holds aspects of a different world: the world of faith/belief and magic. It hints at abilities we have, emphasized by Christ in the Bible: nothing is impossible to those who believe. I loved this movie!

This is where it all began with these two. The title should have been Average Joe Versus the Volcano. Tom depicts the typical american man stuck in a rut but instead of living in that rut forever an incredible oppurtunity arrises and he is given the chance to live like a king and die like a man. I would recomend this to anyone who loves romantic comedy and I myself plan to watch in another 1000 times on top of the thousands of times I have seen it.

You have to see this movie at least 3 times. The first time around you really aren't sure what it was all about, but after the second viewing, you will realize that there is a parallell to life that is saved. The third time, you sit back and take it all in now that you understand the meaning behind the story.

If this is not a loosely-structured re-telling of the story of Jesus, I don't know what it. The details in this movie are amazing. The lamp in Joe's office looks just like the island he ends up on. His seemingly random selection of travel essentials, prove to be his salvation. Three women share the journey with Joe, one more than a little trampy...Enjoy!

The shipping was ground and it got to me quicker than I thought it would. The DVD was like new, I believe, and it was in excellent condition. I would use this seller again.

Great black comedy about everyone being the same in a job oriented lifelessness that only changes when Joe finally get his confirmation about actually having an illness-brainfog-instead of just being a hypochodriac. He actually learns to live and Meg Ryan plays many roles and shows her versatility in this comedy. Who would have expected that luggage would save the day?!
Unexpectedly great movie but must be in the mood and understand that it has many profound depths of truths about the darker side of life day in and out never changing unless you want to live life for itself.

Meg Ryan plays three roles in this one movie. Tom Hanks does an excellent job. Just one of both of their earlier romantic comedy films. It is silly with an underlying tone of truth.

Its an old school movie, funny movie good movie for kids. Saw the movie in theaters when i was a kid, been looking for this movie in stores could not find it so i got it on ebay. Ebays the place for movies that are not in stores.

I am a collector of Tom Hanks and am working on finding his movies on disc after searching on ebay I did not realize how many movies have been put on disc now and I have started looking for others that were only on VHS. I am totally satisfied with my purchase of the movie and with the sellers I love shopping on ebay so that should say it all
