This is a very different Satch album, as it is the only one to focus heavily on the blues. Critics gave him a hard time about this one because it is not a typical shred album, but then again, what do critics know? Joe's biggest influence in creating his music has always been, believe it or not, the old blues pioneers. You wouldn't know it from a lot of his songs, but many have a blues tinge to them that was never fully expressed until this album. And what an album! "Down, Down, Down" is one of the greatest songs he has ever made and is both sad and beautiful at the same time. Must be heard to be fully appreciated. "Look My Way" is a playful number that really lets Joe get loose and show his sense of humor. "Killer Bee Bop" ranks way up there with any shred number he has ever done and even has more intensity than most. Outstanding! "Sittin' Round" ends this album and is so great that it makes you want to clap out loud. But that would be weird, so don't. In conclusion, this album was unfairly judged by critics and is worthy of much praise. Besides, if you don't progress in style, you'll regress, and nobody wants that.

"Joe Satriani" Instrumental. Check out this dude (vocals, guitar, dobro, slide guitar, lap steel, harmonica, bass); Andy Fairweather Low (guitar); Eric Valentine (piano, keyboards, bass, percussion). All songs written by Joe Satriani!
"(You're) My World" was nominated for a 1997 Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance. Joe Satriani's self-titled, seventh adventure bursts with a new level of genius and musicianship.

The first thing that hits you is a huge, warm guitar tone with an enormous groove, but the overall sound is different from the Satch we're used to. JOE SATRIANI is much more direct, more raw and more effective. It is as though he has been stripped of any superfluous trimmings and wayward effects so that the guitar playing within him can come out clearly.

This CD shows he's a gifted and consistent songwriter, sublimely talented guitarist, versatile improviser and a kickin' band--strengths that allow Satriani to express himself ever so eloguently, evoking emotions on a universal level.

The opener, "Cool #9," is a funky, polyrhythmic scorcher on which Satriani grows a stratospheric guitar solo out of a few well-placed succinct phrases. That's just the first of the burning rock to be found on JOE SATRIANI, most of it propelled by the tremendous drumming of Manu Katche. Satriani also pours much of his ferocious red energy into the blues. There are four genuine blues offerings here, showcasing Joe on slide guitar, Joe on harp, Joe on dobro and Joe on vocals. Occasionally adding the touch of rhythm guitar master Andy Fairweather Low, Satriani plays the blues with spine-warming emotion, milking buckets of feeling out of his strings to feed sweet melodies.

It's cheap on Ebay... WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?? (-:

  A quest for knowledge

I bought this item based on my love for Satriani. He is in my opinion the best guitarist i've ever seen live. Hes the real deal guys. I have also seen it like 4 thimes and am waiting for Satch to come back to Washington State to preform again. All his records are different and have weird names I LOVE everything he does musically and this buyer thought so to. Im trying this ebay thing out and am getting used to the idea of using it more and more and more and.................................................................................................................L8 (Late)

  Joe Satriani-Satriani, Joe

I have over 10 Satriani CDs. They are all much heavier than this one and all very good. The first time I listened to this, I really liked it. It is mellow by Satriani standards but every bit as much if not more of a showcase of his talents and versatility. I highly recommend this CD to his fans. I am very glad that I purchased it and think it is too bad that it is not rated as high as it should be. The blues overtones are very easy to listen to as well.

  New low for Joe

Satriani has made some remarkable music, but he's put out a lot of subpar filler -- and both this and (to a slightly lesser extent) "The Extremist" fall into the latter category. This is for die-hard fans only; otherwise, if you're looking for great guitar music I'd stick to fellow 3G-ers Steve Vai and Eric Johnson.
