Joan of Arcadia - The Second Season (2006, DVD)

During this tumulous state our country is in, it is nice to escape and remember what our teenagers go through on a day to day basis and know that there is direction and moral in this series, my daughter and I love to pop it in when she comes home from college, and remeber the lessons of Life & Family will triumph over all if the love is there. Very realistic,with a relegious based as well as questioning your own faith at times. I now has Both seasons!

This is a show that never should have been canceled, but evidently it was controversial due to the discussion of multiple religions and the probability that "God" makes appearances in different forms here on Earth.
Whatever religion or beliefs you follow, this show is thought provoking as well as entertaining. You can analyze the show on many different levels. The acting is wonderful, the storyline original, and the underlying messages makes you think of the broader picture of life rather than mind numbing television that we are so accustomed to. This show appeals to all age groups and you can take it lightly for the entertainment value as well as using some of the scenerios and questions depicted in your own life. It is a true winner!

I decide to buy both season one and two of this great show because while it was on TV, I loved it some much and was so sad to see it cancelled, I now have it to watch when I want. This summer I while mu niece and granddaughter were spending the week with me, I started watching with them season one. By the third show they were hooked and spent the rest of the week watching it and we had great discussions about each show. My took home season two and my sister told me all she watched on TV the next week was Joan of Arcadia. I told my other sister about about it she wanted to watch to series and see if she could get her grandsons who are living with her to watch it. I purchased another season one for her to start them off. I was very surprised how hooked on this show her grandsons ages 14 and 16 became on the show, I knew my sister would love it. Nearly every night the 3 of them watched a show and talked to each other about it. My sister's grandsons live with her now due to problems at home with their stepfather, sadly their father was killed when they were 2 and 4 years old. The grandsons started doing chores early so they could be assured there would be plenty of time to watch it at night. The purchase I am reviewing is the season two I bought for them. It is amazing how much this show has touched 4 teenagers lives this summer. My sister that is very religious could not have loved it more and is so happy to now own both seasons. These two seasons of Joan of Arcadia would be great for church youth groups to show to their young members. It is not preachy at all, it is best at getting you and those watching to talk to each about the lesson God is trying to tell you. Especially things or people are not what they always seem or to not judge a book or person by it's cover. The importance of Family is show here so beautifully. I will treasure my two seasons, also how the lives of my younger family member were touched by this show and how much I personally learned from this show. I plan to lend them to my church's youth group leader to see if they want to show them to the teens. It is mostly set at high school and the stars are teens. A great show the run was way too short, thank goodness for DVD's of TV shows.

I love Joan of Arcadia. There isn't anything I dislike about owning the DVD's. I get to watch them as much as I want and every episode is in order. It's great.

Most of the episodes really make you think. There's more character development and the storylines are engaging. The season finale was particulary well done. Unfortunately, to date, that is the last episode since the series was cancelled after only 2 seasons. :(

One of the things I liked most about this series (both seasons) is that it explores the challenges a "normal" family face. The relationships are solid, yet there are obstacles that come along and even well functioning people can react negatively. But they also show growth and grace to one another as they work out the various issues that crop up.

On a spiritual note, the theme of Joan's relationship with God is fascinating and provides lots of material for discussion. Don't look for a strictly Biblical rendition of God in this series or you'll be disappointed. On the other hand, there is an undertone that the viewer can adapt to fit a Christian worldview. There is definitely enough there for a great group discussion on theological issues as they relate to everyday living. The idea of actions resulting in consequences, both good and bad, are a recurring theme. Also present is the idea that we have connections with each other that we might not usually acknowledge. Seeing those connections (or the potential) can affect how we make decisions or see the "bigger picture."
