Jewelry Making & Beading for Dummies by Heather Dismore (2004, Paperback)

this is a great book for someone just beginning to bead - all of the basics are covered. It doesn't get into anything too complicated, just gives you a good start.

I love this book! IT iwas just what I needed as I have just started to do beading and jewelry making.

This was without a doubt a very fine transaction. The book was as described and arrived very nicely packaged.

I figured that this book would be pretty good just because it is part of the "For Dummies" collection, i was right. The book takes you through all the steps needed to make things like knots, how to use crimp beads, what tools are for what, what beads are good for what, etc. It covered a lot of ground and i was impressed. It even gives you instructions on how to start making money off of your creations. From hosting parties, gettin your EIN number, charging for your time, and selling in a store.

Its a really great book and I glad that I bought it, it gives a detailed perspective on everything needed to throw yourself into jewelry making and beading.

I LOVE thwe "Dummies" books anyway, so I took a chance on this one.

Even though I have a jewelry shop online- I wonderded about this book when I saw it on Ebay.

What a great book- Perfect for beginners as well as the "seasoned" jewelry artisan.
It has so much information on so many areas of making jewery!
From the basics about bead sizes and what tools you might need and wire work basics like wrapping a loop or making connectors on beads and pendants to the more advanced areas of seting up a business and selling your jewelry in different ways.
It even tells you how to set up and do a children's beading party!

Even though I have been making and selling jewelry for years this book puts all kinds of information together in one guide for you to refer to.

I HIGHLY reccomend this book to everyone starting out beading- and to those who want a quick guide to refer to when you are stuck for ideas!

I have to say that I have paged through this book several times. It is true that it is considered a beginner guide, but what no body is saying is that most of the basic beading techniques is the bread and butter. You can honestly make so much money with simple beaded necklace with a "center" stone, especially if you use genuine gem beads.

With this book it really depends on what you want. If you are a creative person and just starting out this isn't a bad book, if you are the type of person who needs to see a patern infront of them, there are much better books out there for you.

I purchased this book when I first decided to start making handbeaded jewelry to sell on ebay. I thought the book would be easy to understnad and to be able to follow the instructions, but with the way the book is laid out, it is hard to understand some of what the instructions are trying to tell you. It doesn't have alot of detailed pictures which most new beaders need to follow instructions by. I feel that you have to already know a little about beading to get the full benefits from this book. I DO NOT recommend this book to someone who is just starting to learn how to bead and make jewelry.

I haven't had the time to go all the way through this book, but what I have read has been very interesting. I have fallen in love with all the beautiful glass beads that are being sold on Ebay.

I know this book will help me learn how to use these beads to make lovely gifts for friends and family. Having seven nieces (all teenagers)makes birthdays and Christmas a bit expensive, but with this book I think I can make them happy without so much expensive.

I bought this book because it was written for me The Dummy with fun and humor added.Every day I improve my skills and knowledge. It shows you how easy and fun beading can be. Easy to follow instructions with lots of pictures, ABook you will return to over and over again.
And if you sell one piece of jewelry you can pay for the book or if you make your own what you save on your jewelry could pay for the book.

INstructions are clear and easy to follow. Helpful to any level of jewelry making skills. I'm happy with it and am sure it will be of good use soon.

VERY EASY TO FOLLOW, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK FOR ANYONE BEGINNING BEADING, VERY PLEASED WITH ALL THE INFORMATION. IT IS A MUST HAVE, THE BOOK BREAKS EVERYTHING DOWN IN STEPS AND IS VERY VISUAL.

Very good book-lots of interesting chapters + great tips even if your not a beginner. Got lots of ideas-worth buying.

This book is a very easy overall guide you need for jewelry making, selling, and purchasing supplies. You don't have to read the whole book, you can start where ever you like which is super convienient. This book gives you ideas on how to get inspiration, basic jewelry instructions, product information, and how to set up your selling space; whether it be online or a home show or even a trunk show. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book, not only for beginners but for anyone who plans to make some money off of their pieces.

The book has taught me about bead, wire size (mm) - hardness of wire and how to use the wire - info on most aspects of beading and wire jewelry - I decided to buy it after I bought some jewelry I could have made myself!

wife and daughter love making jewelry, and this showed them how to make differnent knots and connections they did not know. I catch my wife loking at it quite often while watching TV, One of the best xmas gifts I got her.

This is a bit difficult for very beginners that may not have any knowledge of making jewelry. What pictures there are are in black & white distracts from figuring out what parts are which. It's OK but not one of the better books or for that fact some beading magazines gives better details.

This is a GREAT book for any do-it-yourselfer wanting to learn how to make jewelry. It has it all- necklaces, bracelets, earings, wire-wrapping and more. Also, the author has a sense of humor which makes it an entertaining learning experience. I have used ideas from this book to create my own one-of-a-kind pieces.

I am clueless when it comes to crafts. I bought this because I got a bead catalog in the mail and fell in love with all the gorgeous beads!! The book is pretty good, I have had to look up a couple of super basic things on the firemountaingems website though, so if you are a TOTAL novice like me this isn't a bible for you. Since the internet is so readily available you can always look up something if you aren't clear. I'd recommend this one, and augment it with the Web.
