A great cast with an unknown as the star, Robert Powell. Who portrays the Christ. Knowing he would never again, attain such a powerful role, Robert Powell, portrays Christ, as far as any man can do it. James Farentino as Simon called Peter, a well known actor in his own right, did a wonderful job.
For anyone who wants to see the portrayal of Jesus, with out the scourging...this is the movie for you...Rod Steiger as Pontius Pilate...also did a wonderful job...And as he is crucified, the Roman Soldier who said: Truely he was the Son of God! portrayed by an extrmely well known John Wayne, with no credit intended. The centurion who had his slave healed..Ernest Borgnine...most of this particular story comes from Matthew, Luke and John
and possible a few small tidbits from James. But even on the cross, the mention of John is still there...and the ending of the story while Christ calls out...is taken from the book of Matthew. A wonderful film, in it's adaptation of the Christ from childbirth to crucifiction...and the resurrection that follows...a great family film, to endure for years to come.

The scope of this film is breath taking. It reverentially captures the complexities, and deep emotions involved in the story of the life of Jesus. Throughout it is wonderfully acted. Its recreation of time and place, and Biblical detail, is truly moving. It is an unforgettable movie, ideal for family viewing, and ideal for teenagers to experience. It is long, but full of glorious scenes depicting essential religious, political, and human struggles. It is a very worthwhile viewing experience for anyone, no matter what their religion.
