Jesus for President by Chris Haw, Shane Claiborne (2008, Paperback)

I really liked how this book was done. It was laid out in a fun way and it gave very good evidence for all the claims it made. I went into reading it not knowing what I really believed about this subject, but the book has definitely influenced the way I thought about it. I think Jesus really does desire us to reach out in love, not in war.

I did think that some of the interpretations of Revelation are slightly off base, but not to the extent that the book is bad. And we are all entitled to have our doctrinal differences. If you're reading it, just look for what God wants to teach you through it and not what's wrong theologically. In fact, do that with any work!

Summary of my thoughts:

Good:
-Layout - Fun, relevant pictures, and a systematic work through of the topic
-Topic - It applies to our lives today, and it's something we should consider
-Communication - Ideas are clearly communicated and easy to understand
-Use of Resources - It brings together and ties in lots of different references

Bad:
-Leaves the reader somewhat helpless (what am I to do about all this)
-Some doctrinal differences

Overall, I'd definitely say I liked it, and I'm glad I read it!

Cuts through the governmental politics of this earthly realm and contrasts it with the politics of Jesus and how he would run the world. Describes barriers to humanity that governments form (including democracy) to meet the needs to the people as Jesus did. If you are Christian and want to think outside our political and cultural "box"- then this will take off your "blinders"-that speck in your own eye>
