Jesus Christ Superstar (DVD, 2004, Collector's Edition)

Jesus Christ Superstar is a good movie and very entertaining. But it is not doctrinally correct. People who want to know about God should read the bible and pray, people who just want to see a good movie should watch this.

One of my all-time favorite movies, the casting is superb, and the music is...heavenly. Ted Neeley is inspired, and inspiring, he WAS born for this role!

I was reminded by my girlfriend about this movie. I had forgotten how good it was. Very moving and emotional. Music was fabulous! And a great time of year to get it and watch it!

I saw the play, and Ted Neeley is still playing Jesus! He is awesome! So I had to get the movie, it was fantastic!

I Love this rock opera . Great songs and singers/actors. I grew up in the 70's and can relate to the music and clothes they wear. I listen to this every year(I have the cd also) to remind me what our Lord , Jesus Christ, went through for us. I would highly recommend this especially if you like musicals and rock music. Andrew Lloyd Weber is a genius!

Very catchy toons, provocative 70's people spreading their legs, very dramaic represtation of a lie...

Jesus was not some egotistical chump who couldn't handle the pressure that eventually destroyed HIM. HE laid HIS life down, but HE also took it up again. HE is alive, HE rose from the dead. How can you have a story that is supposed to "represent" when you don't tell half it it, and make up most of what you do tell?

Worst of all Mary never had the hots for GOD on earth, she was like a daughter at the feet of a father she never had.

I recommend reading the Bible before you let crap like this flatter you.

The music is powerful. The message is powerful. Does not need to be historically accurate in order to be great. Watched this over 20+ times ovr the years and I get or notice something different every time. I would recommend this to anyone. Listening to the music, watching the movie, and recently had seen the stage performance with Ted Neely. You want this in your collection. You will never get tired of watching it. I have 2 copies. One to keep and one to share.

Highly recommended for children and adults as well! What a wonderful movie that shows the different sections in the bible leading up to the crucifiction of Christ. Music stays with you, singers and actors are wonderful. Once you see, you will never forget! First class all the way!

e-bay has become my new best friend for all the hard to find DVD's I've been looking for. This rock opera has been one of my favorites since it first came out. I remember going to the theaters to see it time and time again. I had seen it in the store once but didn't have the money at the time and when I went back for it, it had been sold. I discovered e-bay and found it there. there are many old black and white movies also I have found, this site has everything you are looking for and then some.

Back in the 70's when this was first released, there much ado about nothing concerning the title. Some felt that title was disrepectful. Next the very idea that Jesus's last years should be seen through the eyes of Judus, was unheard of!
Once one takes the time from start to finish looking through these eyes, it reveals a remarkable story, that can viewed again and again.

I find the soundtrack to be one of the best rock opera genere. (...the only other rock opera of true quality, was The Who doing "Tommy" NOT THE MOVIE).

Sound quality is better than I remembered. PLEASE get this and truly LISTEN as you watch.

I attended the traveling play of Jesus Christ Superstar recently. The lead actor who played Jesus, Ted Neely, is the same person in this original movie dvd. The voices of all the cast are clear and the words are very modern. I feel this could be used to present the gospel to people who think the message is old, dry and dusty. The gospel is presented in a fresh, fun musical.

The DVD of Jesus Christ Superstar should be seen by everyone. It is exquisitely filmed, the lyrics and music are brilliant, the acting is superb and the story, of course, is Divine.

The only part of the DVD that I didn't like is the fact that there was no instruction on how to change the bonus interview with Ted Neely and the Director off and just run the movie. After several attempts, we finally figured it out (under "language" on the menu) but it should be explained. It must be noted, however, that the interview was interesting and a great peak at behind the scenes.

The DVD is more than 30 years old, but it is one of the few films that will forever remain timeless. What an incredible accomplishment to take a Gospel and relate it to the present day. I don't think people will ever grow tired of its message!

True clasic. Bought this to watch before going to see the live play. Nice to be able to watch with the captions on. Enjoyed seeing the 70s dress. Saw the play and wow did JC get old!

This movie is designed to bring the events of Holy Week to Christians. If you like early 70's rock music, you will love this rock opera! It does a very good job at tying together the Gospels with a contemporary feel. The screen writer has Roman soldiers in purple shirts and carrying Israeli machine guns to demonstrate the power of Rome. As Judas is in the desert pondering if he will betray Jesus to Caiphas, the movie shows him alone, then several battle tanks coming over the horizon to crush him with their Roman Might. There are many scenes such as this that are not meant to be taken literally. Unless you have no concept of the Bible, the average viewer should be able to figure out what is meant to be literal vs. figurative. This is my favorite movie of all time! Since I know I am not thankful of Christ's Passion as often as I should be, I feel I can make up for that by watching this movie many times a year and reflect on my salvation.

I have loved this film and its' music since my High School here in Denver, Colorado did it as the school play of the second semester of my 11th grade year, which was in April, 1982, I was in the chorus.

Norman Jewison does a great job directing with minimal sets, costumes and money spent. It was all shot on location in and around 'the holy land', and the film company even had the cooperation of the Israeli Army and Air Force in two scenes, which are very surreal, considering the theme of the story.

The cast is wonderful, and it is all music, all the time, with no dialog at all. This is truly a Musical!

It was Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's first stage success, and this film is a nice adaptation for the screen. Not all musicals have been great as films.

Norman Jewison also did another superb film version of a stage musical with 'Fiddler On The Roof', which came out 2 years before this film.

If you love the music, story and theme, you'll love this movie!

Even if you're not a huge musical fan, give this one a shot.

Released in 1999, it leaves out all the boredom of director cuts, and nonsense interviews. There are a few special features which are actually worth watching. Haven't been able to find it again but good luck to the one who does. It's also the 107 minute version. The way it was intended...listen to musical score from 1973 and add up the time. Andrew was proud of this one.

I like the clarity of the movie, most especially the lyric of the songs. I love the theme of the story. I decided to buy this dvd so I can watch the entire movie as often as I desire without any worry that it would tarnish with time as it happened with my other video movies.

A truly fun and entertaining way to experience the New Testament story of the messiah. Great music...emotional...passionate...beautiful...the way Christ would want it to be remembered.

I absolutely love the music in this film. The acting is first rate without diminishing the religious messages on which this film was buit. One can look at this work as philosophic or as simple entertainment. I looked at it both ways.

this is a very good product and dvd, it was a big hit in the 70's seventies and still is today. i would by the porduct again in the future and have already bought a few more for gifts for the upcoming holidays

This version is not really the one I wanted. It started in modern times. I would have liked the stage play exactly like it was. I expected the musical score to be more rock opera and it wasn't that either. It was, Jesus Christ Super Star, but not like the stage play.

I bought the DVD Special Edition Jesus Christ Superstar, the original movie with Ted Neely. The DVD was new and no damage to the case.

I hadn't seen this movie/musical in years but it was just as good as I remember. The songs are wonderful!

Great addition to any DVD musical library. Don't let the name scare you off. Great musical all around!
