Great date movie. If you haven't seen in in a while you should see it again.
Fun to see with a date

Jerry Maguire (Tom Cruise)is a dedicated, super-hyper sports agent, who wakes up in the middle of the night having panic and guilt feelings about the way all sports agents treat their clients. So he writes a memo to the other employees of the company about having more feelings for them and ends up getting fired. And so, we have this 1996 movie about Jerry Maguire being on his own.

At the beginning of the movie, Jerry loses his job, ditches his girl (Kelly Preston), and is abandoned by most of his clients. So what does he have? On the way out of the big corporate office where he had been working, he asks for help. Dorothy Boyd (Renee Zellweger), one of the secretaries, volunteers to leave with him. As she says later, Jerry "had me at first hello."

Also, Jerry has Rod Tidwell (Cuba Gooding, Jr.) in an Academy Award winning Supporting Actor role. Rod is just as hyper as Jerry, and he is the only client that remains under Jerry's auspices. The only problem is that Rod is a small but good football player who wants a 10 million dollar contract for 4 years from the Arizona Cardinals. He expects Jerry to "show me the money."

The movie is about the friendship of Jerry and Rod, Jerry and Ray (Dorothy's little boy), and the friendship and romance of Jerry and Dorothy. Their characters are well developed, and we grow to love them all. It is us against Big Corporation greed and the Big NFL owners and managers. It is also a wake-up call for us about all the behind-the-scenes hijinks that make up the sports world. And finally, it is a lesson in romantic relationships and the need for a real commitment before marriage.

This movie is really a romantic comedy which was nominated for 5 Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Actor (Tom Cruise), which is very unusual for romantic comedies. Plus we are treated to music by Paul Mc Cartney and Bob Dylan. Rene Zellweger is great as Dorothy!

Beware for children! There is a blatant sexual scene at the beginning of the movie, and there are lots of locker room scenes with nude men walking around.
