The Jerk (DVD, 2005, 26th Anniversary Edition)

We tried to rent this one day, but it was out, so next best, on to eBay. Found it....if you like to laugh and you like Steve Martin, this movie is for you, it is just gut busting hysterical. Check it out sometime.

I love the movie The Jerk. This movie is one of Steve Martins best early films.Nathan plays a man who was taken in by a black family as a child. He himself thinks he is black. Then Nathan decides one day to make it on his own. He is really funny as a gas attendant at a gas station. A customer came in to buy gas. He needed his glass adjusted. Nathan invented non-slip glasses. The customer promised Nathan he would give him so money for his invention. In the meanwhile, all kinds of things happen. Someone tried to shoot him at the gas station. So Nathan joined the circus. He meets someone he falls in love with and gets married. The inventor have someone contact Nathan and gave him a check for $250,000 big ones. Nathan becomes rich. Later, he has to give the money back. And becomes poor again. Its a rags to riches and poor again story. I like the musical number, Nathan and the whole family dance around in front of the house. I bought the movie because of the special edition. I would of been more happy if there were more deleted scenes shown and more extras.

The Jerk. Not just a great title, a great movie! The opening line says it all: "I was born a poor black child", you already know what kind of movie this is going to be with that line, coming from Steve Martin as Navin Johnson. With a cast that also includes Bernadette Peters, Catlin Adams and Jackie Mason (and was directed by Carl Reiner) there is no question why this movie is a classic. Released in 1979, I have been watching this movie since I was a kid and I still love it.....it's just that good. Buy it, enjoy it, tell a friend. Enjoy!

This Movie is a Classic! Steve Martin does a Great job like Always! This Movie will end up being a Classic if it isn't already. He plays a rags to riches Millionaire dummy that will believe and do anything. Will he lose it all? You gotta watch to find out!

I bought The Jerk, starring Steve Martin and Bernadette Peters for my husband. The movie itself is a hysterical story of a misguided man. The simplicities of the main charaters mind (Navin) and how the most contrite/mondain everyday events we take for granted are on a heightened scale for this character. Everything from having his name in the phone book to his rise to riches and fall from grace has a spin on it that makes us laugh until we cry.

His love for Marie (Bernadette Peters) and how he expresses it is absolutely side splitting and Marie, being a simple person as well as uncultured lends to the story line.

I'd highly recommend this movie to anyone and everyone. Our son even loves to watch it with us and he's a teenager!

STEVE MARTIN IS PROBABLY ONE OF THE FUNNIEST MALE ACTORS OF ALL TIME. I WILL ALWAYS BE ABLE TO WATCH THIS MOVIE TIME AND TIME AGAIN.

One of Steve Martins Best Preformances Ever! As Naven Johnson, a poor black child set's out to find a use for his special purpose in life. He finds out "he really is somebody" when the new phone books come out. A (True - lol) rags to riches, to rags to laughter all the way comedy. This is a movie you really need. and this ashtray, and that all I need. and my dog, I don't need my dog.

This is a great movie! It was cheap and it was brand new! I have no complaints about the movie or the shipping. I recieved it in a couple days after I bought it. It was fantastic!

i got just what i wanted. It is a verry funny movie and like watching ot over and over. I got fast service and shipping was fast. I would order from theis saler agian.

Comedy is more appealling as I get older & this movie is so stupid it's funny. My favorite scenes have to be at the gas station-these cans are defective & Mr. Nussbaum will be dragging a small church behind him. Totally dumb but laughable.

If you don't "get" tougue in cheek movies -If you didn't like Blazing Saddles or Young Frankenstien -Then by all means skip this one! Leave it for us - the small group of people who still scream, "The new phone books are here!!" and sing the Thermos song while we work! This is classic Steve Martin. No, the acting is not great and it is just as cheezy as it can be but....if you are a Connoisseur of Corn you will laugh, I promise. The main character Navin is lovable but not the sharpest knife in the drawer. You get to follow his life from being a "young kid" (at least mentally) to living in the grown up world yet never seeing anything but good in people.

OMG, this is still to this day one of the funniest movies ever made... A must see for Steve Martin fans... so many other movies have tried to duplicate this humor, but cannot pull it off like Steve Martin does...

What is there not to like about this movie? A non stop one-liner may best describe Steve Martin's best work ever. I have watched this movie over and over since I was a 12yo and never stopped laughing. There are very few movies of this comic caliber out there. Movies like The Jerk, Airplane, Caddyshack, and few others have captured that timeless comedy feel. I highly recommend this film to anyone who has never seen it.

I have always loved this movie. It is comic genious from the line when Steve Martin gets the new phonebook, sees his name in there and exclaims loudly,.."I'm somebody now!!!" to the whole premise of the rags to riches to rags story. Clever and silly, good for all ages too. Surprise your teenager and watch it whith him/her, they will enjoy it too.

The Jerk is a great comedy. It will keep you laughing from begining to end. I love anything with Steve Martin in it. I purchased this DVD for my girlfriend, she was very excited.

The best Steve Martin movie hands down. Could quite possibly be the best movie in the world. Best acting by a dog, a jerk, and Bernadette Peters. I have owned this on Vhs and now DVD and never get tired of watching this.

Steve Martin is fabulous in this movie - classic comedy! I watched this again just recently with my teenage son, and am reminded, once again, just how wonderful and entertaining an actor he is. This is a great family movie for the teenage kids, with the unique and colorful characters, the sexy and sweet Bernadette Peters, the clever and scruffy dog, the odd circumstances that innocent Steve gets himself into, and how he looks at and deals iwth adversity. I highly recommend this classic as a permanent addition to your library. Great feel good fun on a rainy day! So pop up some popcorn and enjoy! TLC
