Back in 1992, the music landscape was changing. Fake hair bands like Poison and Warrant were quickly becoming tired and boring and a new wave of music was emerging. That style of music was dubbed grunge. The main source of grunge music was the fertile ground of Seattle. Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam all hailed from that region and all three were extremely influential in the movement. All of their music was fresh, powerful and loud. It's emblazoned across the CD-single for Pearl Jam's biggest bona fide hit: "Not to be confused with more expensive (identical) import version." A lesson, PJ fans and amateur PJ fans: don't be duped by the friggin' import singles. They'll kill your wallet. Lesson completed. Now, "Jeremy" was Pearl Jam's breakout, of sorts, in 1992. A good friend whose musical tastes I respected greatly was telling me all about a new band called Pearl Jam, and he had their first album, Ten. After hearing the brutal "Once", the incredibly intense "Evenflow", and the soaring, cathartic "Alive", I begged, pleaded, and begged some more until he finally relented and let me borrow it for the night. Considering Pearl Jam's new cd just came out yesterday, I cannot review that yet, so instead I will review The Jeremy Single. One of the original Pearl Jam songs released in 1991, Jeremy is the 2nd single made by this legendary band after the Alive Single, and believe me the Alive Single doesn't compare to this.
