Album Notes
Audio Remasterer: Joe Tarantino.
Liner Note Author: David R. Legry.
The second volume in the JAZZ SIGNATURES series of multi-artist anthologies presented by Starbucks is a solid exploration of modern jazz. This time it moves further than the usual suspects that even non-jazz fans are familiar with (Bill Evans, Miles Davis, Vince Guaraldi) into other worthies. Highlights include guitarists Joe Pass (a fine "How High the Moon"), Charlie Byrd (a warm take on Antonio Carlos Jobim's "Meditacao"), and post-bop saxophonist Jackie MacLean, who closes the album with an epic solo on the standard "Sentimental Journey."
