Great military war movie with lot of action and documentary style presentation. This movie doesn't contain any glorified action; however, delivers it in a real life way.

This is a psychological movie explaining the trials and tribulations of soldiers in the Marine Corps that have to leave their common everyday lives behind to go protect our country in an unknown land. This is not a love story, It is a battle between a young man and his mind while he tries to overcome the war that surrounds him.

The true story of Marine Anthony Swofford (Jake Gyllenhaal) who enlists in the Marines - like his father did before him - and goes through the toughening up process of boot camp before being sent to the Gulf as part of over half a million soldiers in the Desert Shield campaign to beat back the Iraqi army which has invaded Kuwait. He encounters fellow Marines, or Jarheads, who are as perplexed, afraid and conflicted as he is. He comes under the command of Sergeant Sykes (Jamie Foxx) and forms a bond with his mentor, Troy (Peter Sarsgaard); but the experience is never close to what he expected, in any way whatsoever.

love a good war movie -- but this one sucked--mostly training and more foul language than was necessary

This was an excellent film with a great portayal of the brief but intanse battle of the first war in Iraq. It brings to public view the training and life of a disciplined American hero, A combat military man.

This movie gets a couple of points because supposedly it's realistic. But come on. All movie long the uncharismatic characters are sitting there moaning about how there's no action, and how there's nothing to do. That's not very entertaining to watch. The movie doesn't even develop the characters. Then to make matters worse, the 2 hour movie ends, and still... nothing has happened.

I loved this movie, but I know alot of people who were not in the Marine Corps wanted more action. This is the true life of the Marine Corps, HURRY UP & WAIT! The Party scene almost exactly displays the true Corps party experience. This is truly a great movie.

I went to this movie expecting blood and guts and bullets...WAR

but that was not what i saw. I saw a movie that you get frustrated as do the soldiers which makes it a great film.

This is a must see for all americans that want to learn about the Iraq War.

I really liked this movie. It is a little slow at times; however, that is kind of the point. This movie takes place in Iraq we know this conflict as Desert Storm. The story is about a Marine Sniper/Scout and his time in Iraq. It is a wild movie with many so-called "bad words" it is a vulgar movie but life in the Army can be vulgar so it fits. It is a good movie check it out.

Had no idea of plot when I bought this...just like war movies....The character roles in this movie were outstanding......kept my interest through entire film

I love a good war movie.. I love a good action movie.. this movie provides neither. This is by far the worst movie I've ever seen with such a talented cast.

If you've seen the previews, you've seen the best parts of the movie.

Everything else is - more or less - just filler.

Bottom Line: Only watch this movie if you are having trouble falling asleep.

I began watching this movie and was pulled alot of different ways. First I thought it was very foul in language. Where normally I would quit watching, I went ahead and finished it because of its being a "reality" film. I am quite disturbed by how training is accomplished to prepare our young men for war. If the war wasn't enough to "screw" them up, the training sure would have for me. I feel for any man who has to endure any parts of this training let alone to deal with war. Hoorah for the men! But thumbs down for the training methods and those afficted with dealing with this type of corp life.

This is a must see movie. Too much of this movie are true. Is a pretty good review of some of what happened in the Gulf War.

Jarhead is a great movie that portrays the young American soldiers that go to war under certain expectations.

This film is about a Marine Sniper, his men and the time they spend waiting for the war to begin, the overwhelming boredom, and the anticipation of dying. This is not your typical war movie. It takes place prior to and during Desert Storm/Gulf War Era. The Marine and his men are sent overseas, and for months are left in the desert with pretty much nothing to do, they get bored, some on the the brink of insanity. When they do see "action" it is thwarted by technology that works too well and some that does not work at all.
If I have some time I will see it again and I can not say that about most films I have seen.

Incredibly well done. Outstanding and underrated cast. A very pleasing performance and tale of post-traumatic stress and the life after combat. The cinematography is absolutely jaw dropping in this film. The scenes shot in the desert, especially with the oil fires, are truly breathtaking. The emotional level brought by a beautiful score really supports the perfect shots not in a noticeable way so that you feel forced but a natural way, so you feel eased and right. Something I recognized right away as I got into the film was the lack of political standpoint or message shoved. I felt like we as the viewer are given a very realistic view into a soldiers life and at the end are left deciding whatever political fate we wish. For a war film, this attribute is extremely rare and cherished. I am so glad that it was just a real story and not something covering up a motivation. I've highly enjoyed watching this film multiple times.

The movie came in time it was in between the estimated time. The movie works great there are no scratches on it, Ive had no problems with it. The box looks real straight it has no dents or holes or anything. Im very happy with the product.
