Combine it with Sap.
Review created: 10/28/09

This is a very worthwhile album for Chains fans. It would be neat, however if the record label would combine Jar Of Flies and Sap as one full lenght disc. If so it would make for one of their best releases instead of two short EPs.

This is the 3rd time I have purchased this CD. LOVE IT! It was scratched the first time and stolen the next, but I just can't go too long without it. An easy listen that I can't say enough about! Give it a go and try this one out.

Alice in Chains/ Jar of Flies
Review created: 03/04/09

This AIC cd is some of their slower songs. For those who like a slow mood and attitude this is for you. I bought this cd just for that. It's got a couple of "hits" on it, and brings in a bit of their harder side. Overall, my favorite CD they've made.

I bought it online cause I can't buy it anywhere where I live. The price was right and the album is great! good price, shipped to me fast. The only thing I dont like about it, there are only 7 songs, maybe thats why its so cheap!

 Jar of Flies Review
Review created: 12/10/08

This is one of my all time favorite albums and the best album, in my opinion, every released by Alice in Chains. This album is an emotionally strong compilation of haunting melodies. You can actually feel the pain in Lane Staley's voice in all the songs. I highly recommend this album and if you're an Alice in Chains fan it's a must have.

Jar Of Flies [EP] - Alice In Chains (CD 1994)
Review created: 04/24/08

We had this CD before but could not find it anywhere. Liked all of the songs in the past and enjoyed them just as much this time around. Be prepared, there aren't very many songs on the CD, but the quality of songs there makes it worth it.

Jar Of Flies [EP] - Alice In Chains
Review created: 08/26/07

Track listing

1. Rotten Apple
2. Nutshell
3. I Stay Away
4. No Excuses
5. Whale & Wasp
6. Don't Follow
7. Swing On This

I really enjoy the way the blues, classical, acoustic rock and electrified rock come together on this disc. The Jar of flies EP was amazingly recorded in one day. If there was any one single Alice In Chains disk I was forced to listen to for the rest of my life this would be on the top of my list of preferred selections. Its so rock and over the top in places but then it doesn't ever seem to totally commit to one style or another for too long either.

I like this pirticular band and their style of music. I liked the ease of being able to find this CD. The condition is close to new and price with shipping was a lot less than purchasing it from a local music store new.

Moody, dramatic, compelling...digs into your soul...
Review created: 01/01/07
by:

..even 'tho it's older, early '90's music, it STILL carries the weight of angst, anger, hope and love...from the very first track, I was as hooked as if I were addicted...Jerry Cantrell can make one HAVE to hear every song. His guitar style grabbed me- I HAD to run n' pick up my guitar n' follow along. Funny how I'd never bought this album (or cd, if one is 'New School'...I'm more of an album lover) until I got all "E-Bay"ed up...could it be it's the fact that the prices are lower on E-Bay...?...or that one can shop anytime?...or not have to drive from hell to breakfast all over town to get all the music you want? Could be... daBear :)

A must for any AIC fan
Review created: 11/02/06

This is their 3rd album, released shortly after their breakthrough 'Dirt'. It shows a new side of the band that is more mellow and composed, but yet not a hard transition from the grunge classic 'Dirt'. This may or may not be the place to start if you're interested in AIC, but either way you should still get it.

Alice in Chains at their very best..
Review created: 08/03/06
by:

Twas a sad day when I found out about the death of Lane Staley. He brought a different kind of approach to the whole grunge scene. Versatile in his delivery, Lane crushed anyone in his way of vocal supremecy in his "genre". This album really shows off his flexibility as a vocalist and shows just how good he and the band could change things up. This is by far my favorite AIC c.d., it's just too bad that there are only a handfull of tracks on it. :( Pick this one up if you want to be amazed!

This is one of the top 10 recordings of all time!
Review created: 07/09/06
by:

I had originally purchased this recording when it was first released (on cassete! it was a while back). I recently purchased the c.d from Ebay, and was just as happy buying it the second time around. I have lived, eaten, and breathed music my whole life, and in my oppinion, this is one of the top 10 recordings of all time! Of course, I'm a little biased, for the fact that Alice in Chains is one of my all time favorite bands. This is my favorite recording of theirs, and I love everything they ever did. It's a little on the mellow side for A.I.C. It's very soulful, very melodic. To pick a favorite song would be very difficult. "Don't Follow" comes to mind first. Soothing guitar, cool lyrics, probually my favorite. Cool bass line on "Swing on This". "No Excuses" awesome... I like every song on the c.d. I recomend it highly...

 Alice 'Break On Through'
Review created: 12/02/05
by:

This CD presents Alice meshing their thrashing rock style with the feels of classic rock, blues--and lyrically, the ballad. This EP has spectacular breadth, finding Alice playing some of their best rock as well as bluesy cuts that haunt, like the poignant "Don't Follow." The only weakness of the entire album is that it is an EP, and somewhat short...but "Alice in Chains" featuring Tripod the dog on the album cover is only a little while away.

Something a Little Different for Alice in Chains
Review created: 01/21/05
by: lambchops-- a member of Epinions and Lead in Music

Pros:
Six great songs--especially Don't Follow

Cons:
One stinker.

Seattle-based band Alice in Chains knew how to record a great hard rock album. The band was fronted by a pair of talents. Layne Staley provided the band's signature growl while lyricist Jerry Cantrell provided some of the most striking songs, guitars, and backing vocals of the era. Between the two of them, it was easy to see why the band succeeded. The four-man band (completed by bassist Mike Starr and later Mike Inez and drummer Sean Kinney) was easily the most rooted in metal of all their early 1990's geographical peers. Listeners first took real notice when AIC released their 1990 debut...

"If I can't be my own, I'd feel better dead"
Review created: 01/09/07
by: blindsider-- a member of Epinions and Advisor in Music

Pros:
Amazing guitars, indescribably beautiful vocals, brilliant lyrics...

Cons:
Leaves people like me wanting more just because it's so perfect.

Whether artists refer to them as "miniature albums," "a brief sampling of rarities and B-sides", or "a preview of what's to come", EPs tend to have a bad reputation. I guess that's understandable. So many EPs are hastily released with very little thought put into them; it's easy to see that when a number of bands release EPs full of tacky remixes and live recordings of bad quality, EPs are often nothing more than cash-grabs for bands and disappointments for the fans. But you know there's something special about an EP when it's hailed by a band's fanbase as unquestionably essential. Hell, some.

 Grunge takes a creative turn
Review created: 03/08/03
by: punkrawka-- a member of Epinions and Advisor in Music

Pros:
An acoustic exploration of everything grunge meant musically

Cons:
Next to none

I, like many members of my age bracket, have listened to quite a lot of grunge in my day. From the heydays of Nirvana and Pearl Jam to the broodingly successful career of Soundgarden to the seemingly endless clones of the originals, this ill-defined genre has obviously been marked in its impact on music at large. But one band, in my mind, always girded the entire scene, providing a dark, musically inspired foundation for a genre that was often wobbly at the knees. That band was Alice in Chains, and they proved just how creative they were when they released Jar of Flies, the EP with the unique.

Time flies when you're listening to good music.
Review created: 06/02/04
by: TheUnknown285 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Good vocal performances, Good lyrics, Beautiful instrumentation

Cons:
Only seven songs, Lacks some of the emotional power of Dirt

Alice in Chains was one of the early nineties bands I discovered after giving up on pop a few years ago after hearing The Man in the Box from Facelift, the band s first LP. For those not familiar with Alice in Chains, they were grunge's closest connection to heavy metal. They were the heaviest and the darkest of grunge's four top bands (The others being Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden.) For this album, an EP to follow-up the band s acclaimed LP Dirt, Alice in Chains consists of Layne Staley on vocals, Jerry Cantrell on guitars and vocals, Sean Kinney on drums, and Mike Inez on bass....

 Swing On Some AIC
Review created: 01/09/05
by: PacManY2J -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Every song

Cons:
Short (but doesn't really feel like it is)

Few bands can create an EP that is so excellent that it leaves you feeling like you just listened to a full-length album. Alice In Chains is one of those few. With 1993's Jar of Flies, AIC needed only seven tracks to make a classic. Alice In Chains is known for making both slow songs about pain and depression and heavy metal headbangers. But on Jar of Flies, they mainly stick with the slow tunes. However, these songs are stylistically varied enough to give the album a range of sounds. Some are upbeat, some are downtrodden, but all come together to form one of the many great albums of the...
