Alanis is one of my favorite artists, but all biases aside, I think just about anyone can get into this album. It is fueled by all sorts of emotions, from childhood angst, feel-good grooving, anger over relationships, and even jealousy. Alanis seems to always put her heart and soul into her lyrics and the music is powerful enough to complement her voice perfectly.

Jagged Little Pill is a very good album to listen to in the car, on road trips, cleaning house, or even just relaxing! Some tracks are up-beat, such as "All I Really Want," which opens the album, and some are more somber and serious, such as "Perfect," which is a song reflecting on unfulfilled parent/child relationships. You will remember some of the chart-topping tracks, such as "Hand in My Pocket," "You Oughta Know," "You Learn," and even "Ironic" from their heavy radio play, especially from the mid-to-late 90's.

This album also features some interesting aspects, such as an alternate take of "You Oughta Know" (track 13), and if you let the CD play through entirely, you will find a secret track called "Forgive Me Love" written into the album a while after the last song has ended.

Definitely worth a try, I would recommend it to anyone who can enjoy a strong woman singing about her life and values in a very powerful way. Every track can be enjoyed!

1. All I Really Want
2. You Oughta Know
3. Perfect
4. Hand in My Pocket
5. Right Through You
6. Forgiven
7. You Learn
8. Head Over Feet
9. Mary Jane
10. Ironic
11. Not the Doctor
12. Wake Up
13. You Oughta Know (Alternate Take)

This is one of those CD's that is a must-have for any music library, and is included in scores of "Best Album" lists by an impressive array of mixed reviewers. I purchased this when it debuted and literally wore out at least two CD's from overplay. It's a unique and incredibly diverse album with vocals that will sear your brain, and lyrics that explore anger, love, bitterness, angst, and jealousy in depth and with a confident, smart style that is almost unheard of in a breakthrough artist. The album contains a list of songs that are superior in every aspect and stand out uniquely and unforgettably on their own, with absolutely no "filler", and include crooning ballads, sultry soul, raging rock, and more. It's sarcastic, crude, rude, and harsh; yet it was honest and actually made sense. This album will not leave you unaffected, even for those who are not fans of this incredible musical gem. The music, lyrics, and voice of Alannis Morrissette are strong, with an incredible range of emotion and depth that reach both men and women. Although criticized for "faking" the angst and anger that are part of her new persona (Alannis was a bubble-gum pop singer in Canada before crashing into the US charts with JLP), she deserves every hymn of praise sung for this unique and talented compilation. Many people will probably remember many of the songs as they received heavy radio airplay in the 90's. It's hard to believe that it's been ten years since the release of this rock/alternative masterpiece. It's as contemporary now as it was then as a voice for young women True, it's been a while now since I reached into my CD library and listened to Jagged Little Pill, but I will always remember what it did for me back when it came out. It still carries a powerful wave of nostalgia for me when I overhear any of the songs on this memorable classic. Isnt' that what all great music should do?

One of the best CD's ever made

The cd is very unique in its music, and set Alanis Morissette on fire, and launched her into the world. Its music is very sultry, and strong, and the songs like "you oughta know" and "right through you" are a tribute to women, encouraging them to stand up and realize their independance, where others encouraged people to accept and actually enjoy their moods or feelings, rather than be afraid of them. It was a very powerful CD, and in my mind, any CD that promotes inner strength to teenagers is a definite A+

She plays many different instruments on the CD including a wonderful take on a harmonica that seems to highlight her vocals immensily. The melodies are pure A Grade in your face 'guts' with a lot of soul and character, and definately well worth listening to.

The following is a list of the songs on her album.
I hope you enjoyed this review.

1 All I Really Want
2 You Oughta Know
3 Perfect
4 Hand in My Pocket
5 Right Through You
6 Forgiven
7 You Learn
8 Head over Feet
9 Mary Jane
10 Ironic
11 Not the Doctor
12 Wake Up
13 You Oughta Know (Alternate Take)

This is an absolutely EXELLENT CD! I take this on every road trip I ever make since it was new! Her voice is dynamic but her lyrics are even stronger- JUST MIND BOGGELING in every way, she speaks from the heart, and is not afraid to speak from her pain and angst.

shes angry in this cd over a breakup of a boyfriend she had for a while and it shows in the song 'You oughta know"

This is one of my favorite cd's. Even after 10 years this cd is still hugely popular. Alanis definitely defines herself as different in this album. So different from the bubble-gum pop singers of her time.

Some of my favorites include: Ironic, All I Really Want, You Oughta Know, and You Learn.

If you are a fan of Alanis then you'll definitely love this cd.

  Hugely popular, yet incredibly annoying.

"Pill" was one of the biggest selling albums of the 90's. It was an anthemic statement of disenchantment with relationships and growing up that made a powerful impact upon legions of teenage girls. Confused boyfriends across the nation were yanked by their hair and forced to attend packed arenas where Alanis's yowling would assault the attendees for no less than two tortorous hours. These "concerts" were not about the music, which was repetitive and banal in the extreme. Instead, they served as a kind of mass group therapy, where the collective frustrations of not being called enough on the phone or having to do the dishes more than 50% of the time could be vented en masse.

This album sucks. Hard. Total doorstop material. It is a painful reminder of how bad the music (and culture) of the 90's really was. May we never, ever, have to repeat it.

Years after the release of this debut album, I still find it refreshing. Alanis was a breakthrough artist, although most people don't give her that credit. I would highly recommend this album.

Back in 1995 Alanis Morissette was singing my life. I love her music. I have worn out three tapes of this record. I needed the CD. The seller was great and everything went smoothly. I have played the CD everyday. It reminds me of how far I have come in life. I have one record of hers left on tape and will be looking very soon on ebay to get the CD. Alanis Morissette is an artist of words and music. Thank goodness for ebay, the sellers and buyers.

I loved this CD from the very first time I heard it back in 1996. I used to have it on tape and I was looking for a place to purchase it - - - new or used but inexpensive - - - so I came to EBAY and I found some great sellers who sold me a used CD that plays and looks brand new and the CD arrived very quickly. I am so happy for EBAY and the wonderful sellers who are a part of EBAY :)
