Album Notes The third album by ex-Royal Trux Jennifer James Herrema and co. is down and dirty, straight-ahead rock & roll, but with an unabashedly hair-metal edge. "You Should Shut Up" commences things with a TalkBox, arena-glam synths, crisp guitar leads, and metallic riffs that aren't a far cry from Slaughter and Cinderella. But if either group possessed Herrema's "get the hell out of my way" spitfire instead of pretty-boy falsetto-mining, that entire era may have escaped with its reputation intact. On "Cheap Wine Time," guitarists Jaimo Welch and Brian McKinley take the lead from Herrema's exhausted rasp, and intertwine mournful solos that carry on like wayward sons. With JJ GOT LIVE, RTX is bent on raising hell as if they stumbled out of a time machine right onto the '80s Sunset Strip--and thanks to one ferocious frontwoman, they succeed.
