It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (DVD, 2001, Widescreen; Includes Extras)

When this movie was made it ran over 3 hours and played in the Cinerama theater in Hollywood which is where I saw it. When it was shown in the rest of the country they edited it down to 2hrs 41 minutes. This is the version that has been available on video. The cut footage was thought to be lost. But, someone found it and re-edited it back into the Laser Disc version giving you a 3hr 8 min version with a documentary about the movie. (A double tape VHS version came out with the restored version, but it was only sort-of letterboxed. Not the complete widescreen, so you do miss half of the characters on the screen)

When the DVD came out it waa decided that they would put on the "touring" version of 2:41 and give you the lost footage on side B, along with the documentary. The reason given was that the newly found "lost" footage was not of the same quality and watching it on DVD would "jar" the viewers. Personally, watching disjointed extra footage on side B is "jarring" to me.

So, they rereleased the movie again, this time without side B. Only the touring version and no extras. The covers of the DVD are the same. So, unless you look carefully you do not know which version you are buying. Only the edge is different. The new release has a black area near the top.

Personally i'll keep my laser version since it is the most complete!!!

This is an excellent DVD of the film. This film holds up even though a good number of comedians have passed away. The "extra" documentary is very well done and was put together right after an early release of the film. It also seems to have been updated recently. I recommend that you buy this film and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy.

Such a classic. There are so many great lines in this movie. The whole plot weaves together beautiful and there is great character development. You get all of that in addition to one of the funniest movies ever.

My favorite line: "Listen, everybody has to pay taxes. Even businessmen, who lie and cheat and steal from people every day. Even THEY have to pay taxes."

This is the funniest and cleaniest movie you could watch. A tribute to all of the old stars of hollywood.

Be sure to look for the (c)2001 and a host of special features listed on your copy of It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. The extra features were removed from all versions after this one which is a shame. With around 3 hours of movie to watch and around 3 hours of special features you can't go wrong! The car chases and stunts are still amazing to this day! Mostly because they are all real! No CGI or effects here folks. Amazing metal on metal car stunts and slapstick comedy that will keep even younger viewers entertained. Great cast, great movie, great special features

I remember when this film came out in '63 and '64, all the advertising &
posters with caricature-artwork of all the stars in it. And I saw this movie
at the show back then & liked it a lot. This flick actually lived up to all
the hype and promotion, with entertainment to spare !
There were imitation-movies that came after this one, and some of those
were good also, but this movie was the original article, & I'll always think of
it that way.
I highly recommend this movie to be viewed by anyone , any age group !!!!

I never get tired of this movie. Even when I play parts of it for research, it still makes me laugh.

I'm in awe of all of the incredible work that went in to making it!

It's not for everyone, but it sure is for me!

This is a fun movie with a great cast. There are not many movies with this number of "stars". It is light hearted fun. I really enjoyed the location shots. I hope the plan for a sequel come to fruition.
