Interesting sociological study of its time and place
Harry Belafonte is very, very sexy in this movie (as ever), and Dorothy Dandridge is luminous.
The movie feels like it runs a bit long, to me, but that's probably typical of older movies. There is very good character development and a little bit of all the good movie stand-bys: innocence, romance, politics, family tensions, even murder.
The scenery is lovely, as you might expect in an island movie. I personally also enjoy the mid-century modern clothing and decor. Classic.
