A very good story of both interacial inequality and the "taboo" (at the time) of interacial love on a Carribean Island. Dorothy Dandridge is breathtaking. All - Dandridge, Fontaine, Mason, Belefonte, Collins, et al deliver strong and fine performances.

Great movie Classic! Great all star cast! Wonderful movie! Murder & mayhem = a perfect movie for this time period. Great movie to own! Dorothy Dandridge, Harry Belafonte, and Joan Collins. One of the 1st movies that had interracial relationships.

Interesting sociological study of its time and place

Harry Belafonte is very, very sexy in this movie (as ever), and Dorothy Dandridge is luminous.
The movie feels like it runs a bit long, to me, but that's probably typical of older movies. There is very good character development and a little bit of all the good movie stand-bys: innocence, romance, politics, family tensions, even murder.
The scenery is lovely, as you might expect in an island movie. I personally also enjoy the mid-century modern clothing and decor. Classic.

Saw this movie long time ago. Loved the characters, the plot and the ending. This has been one of my favorite movies since I was a young girl. It captivates me. The movie deals with every day life and is portrayed true to life. The characters are colorful and exciting. Could watch every day without getting bored.

Excellent film. Took a lot of chances in it's day dealing with the subject matter. I also want to note I was suprised at the quality of the item itself. It exceeded my expectations. Best thing to do is view the film yourself and form an opinion first hand. "Island in the Sun" was released in 1957 and had an impressive cast. Worth the watch. Based on a novel by Alex Waugh. later gang...

Excellent story about the conflicts that life can throw at you for both Caucasians and Blacks. The movie is located on a Caribbean island. The portrayals by the actors are wonderful as well as the songs by Harry Belafonte. I enjoyed the drama associated with the coupling of mixed relationships. I live on a Caribbean island and can very well understand the images that the movie portrays. I also love the scenes of an island long before the invasion of tourism and gross development.

  Love the title

The color and scenery were excellent, but the storyline was not as good to me as the cover made it out to be. 1)I did not like the interracial love stories. There was not enough love shown between Dorothy Dandridge and her white male lover, and none shown between Harry Belefonte and the white woman who tried to love him. 2)I also expected more dancing and music by Dorothy Dandridge, as well as from the islanders. 3) I found the political troubles boring, especially as it interfered/hindered the love Harry Belefonte could have had with the white woman. 4) As a whole, I was disappointed with the story and lack of lively intertainment.
