HG Wells Novel at it's Worst

Do not confuse this Sci-Fi Flick with the 1977 Island of Doctor Moreau, which has become a cult classic, but unfortunately is now out of print!
1997 arrives with John Frankenhiemer's remake starring Marlon Brando in the famous role of Doctor Moreau. However, Brando is an aging over-weight albino scientist who really appears to be high on drugs or something to the extreme as with the rest of the cast and the Beastmen as well.
Val Kilmer plays Brando's assistance, who immediatly in the first 10 minutes of the film breaks the neck of a small helpless rabbit, which in turn really WAS A MAJOR TURN OFF! Why they wasted filming this scene doesn't make sense!!
British extrodinare David Thewlis of Dragonheart fame, is rescued by Kilmer after Thewlis' plane crashed and has gone down in the Ocean. On an exclusive solitude island in the Pacific, where all of the weird experimentations are taking place, Brando as Moreau is experimenting with animals and turning them into creatures called humanimals. Dr. Moreau is a brilliant geneticist on the brink of superseding evolution, when the experiments back fire and the beast-men revolt and take over the island and are on the verge of threatening all life on Moreau's island, and perhaps the rest of the world as well.
The Outstanding special effects by the Wizard of Special Effects Animatronics and outstanding make up by Stan Winston Creature Workshop does make this flick worth viewing the upgrade from the 1977's version. This version's time stream takes place in the future around the year 2052 unlike 1977's version was based in the 19th Century.
