The Island (DVD, 2005, Widescreen)

An excellent film with an intensely absorbing story that gives rise to some disturbing moral issues, some of which strike startlingly close to home with the recent advances in cloning. The action sequences are the best I've seen in a while---there isn't a lot of rehashing of the same old stock stunts that we see over and over in so many actioners, and the explosions and car crashes are original and new. This keeps it fresh and enjoyable to watch. Maintains a good balance of strong storyline and thrilling chases to satisfy just about any movielovers' tastes. Although you can compose your goner list with concrete accuracy very early in the film, and the details of the mystery aren't that difficult to figure out in advance as you go along, it's still a very engrossing storyline that is well done and fun to watch.
