My son has a quiet collection of books by chuck P. Every time that he gets a new book by this writer, he can't put book down until he's finished.

  Great Read
Review created: 05/28/09

One of my friends recommended reading the "Chuck" books. So I decided to start out with Invisible Monsters.

The book was a great read from beginning to end. Sometimes it was difficult to understand because the book jumps around. Though once you continue reading all the little parts tie in together.

The story in itself is a little strange, but what do you expect from the author of "Fight Club".

Excellent book.

  To Love
Review created: 03/10/09

Invisible Monsters is a very fast and easy read. It is entertaining and interesting. I personally had a hard time 'relating' to it, if that's the right word. But I still enjoyed it and would recommend it. The plot is not what I would have expected, but that seems to be a trend I have with any Palahniuk book! It is a fun adventure set in a world that is so vibrant and real. Chuck's writing style is so natural I think he could write about anything and it would be worth your time to read.

  Visible Genius!

Chuck Palahniuk delivers again in this hysterical, subversive and often times moving novel. 'Invisible Monsters' is a definite page turner with twists and surprises around every corner. As usual with Palahniuk's work, the characters are flawed and slightly off kilter but never-the-less endearing. After reading 'Invisible Monsters' you will definitely be hooked on the wacky semantics and brilliant prose of Chuck Palahniuk; in my opinion one of the finest living authors around.

  Amazing.

I am a VERY big fan of Panic! At The Disco, who has a song called Time To Dance. I fell in love with the song, and when I found out that it was based on THIS book, I decided I must read it. I have to be honest, I didn't begin to understand it untill maybe the.. 20 somethingth chapter, but when I hit one spot, it just amazed me. It is written in such a different way from any other book that I have ever read. It can be a bit vulgar at times, but how many of us don't enjoy that bit of twisted sickness? The characters are always suprising you with new stories that lead you deeper into their lives. And in the end, you will be utterly shocked. My mouth dropped when I learned the secret that eggs you on through the whole book, but you never expect it! Read the book!

  One of Palahniuk's Best
Review created: 06/06/07

In my opinion, Invisible Monsters was one of Palahniuk's most creative and entertaining. The characters were very well developed and captivating, even if they were too obscure to closely identify with. The story was a rather original one which kept you guessing throughout, and seemed to get better and better as the book went on. I have read nearly all of Palahniuk's books, and this has to rank in my top 2 favorites. All of his books are a bit odd or 'out there', and Invisible Monsters is no exception, but the story and characters are too well done to let that bother you.

  Interesting

This was an interesting book. It definitely kept you on your toes and hit you with some unexpected twists. The plot is certainly unique, as are the characters. My biggest complaint is that the author does not have a good grasp on writing a female voice. The main character, the first person voice in this book, is supposed to be a very feminine beauty queen, but I simply could not picture her this way because her inner voice sounded so male to me. It made her seem too tough, not fragile enough. This worked better for some of the other female characters, though I won't say why and spoil some plot points for those who haven't read it. I wanted more femininity from the main character, though. Overall, though, I liked the book. I couldn't find it in any library, so buying it on Half is almost a must if you want to read it.

Great book.. just not for every reader
Review created: 11/04/05

I loved this book. It kept me guessing all the time. With every chapter a new twist made the plot so thick that when it was all over I was honestly shocked by the outcome. Beware.. it is not for the faint of heart..there are a lot of topics that are discussed in a stark manner. HIV, self hatred, envy, transsexualism, molestation, homosexuality, body image, and betrayal-- but addressed in a different way. If you have the time read it. It will keep you hooked for sure!
