Stephen Sondheim shows his ingeniuity in this breathtaking on stage musical. An amazing line-up of multi talented Broadway actors including the one and only Bernadette Peters (steals the show with an amazing performance in her role as 'The Witch'), Joanna Gleason (in top form...the Bakers Wife), Chip Zien (Her Husband, The Baker), Robert Westenburg and Tom Aldredge who both show amazing talent in 'both' of their character roles...and MORE. This is a truly amazing cast, who throughout their performances, compliment one anothers talents unlike any production I have ever seen.
A creative storyline like no other....The story of a childless baker and his wife, who upon discovering that a curse has been placed on their family by the resident evil witch (Bernadette Peters).....must embark on a truly amazing journey Into The Woods to collect a variety of items from a multitude of fairytale characters in order to have the curse reversed!

This is pure genius! Very cleverly written, as all our childhood favourites are brought together in this charming tale which will stay with you forever. It is an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish which has you laughing one minute, crying the next, and singing your heart out throughout!. Well written numbers performed to the highest standard! Truly fantastic actors/actresses display amazing talent throughout as you accompany the characters on their individual journeys into the woods and follow them throughought their adventures. Watch the baker and his wife as they tirelessly search for a white cow....a red cape.....yellow hair....and a golden slipper! The elusive four ingredients required to lift the curse bestowed upon them by the wicked witch! Chaos ensues as they harrass and haggle with the owners of these much needed ingredients, and just when they think they're there, along come Jacks' Giants!! It's both funny AND sad!! This is the best broadway show recording out there. All the actors are wonderful, the sound is good, and the show itself is amazing. Funny, powerful, and very clever story. It's hard to find.
Please note that there are no extra features. This is direct from the VHS recording, so no subtitles, no actor interviews, etc.

This movie of a stage play scored by Stephen Sondheim is delightful. Bernadette Peters, Joanna Gleason and Chip Zien are wonderful. A compilation of several fairy tales uses humor and lyrics to convey fun. The entire cast actually look as if they are enjoying being in it. Witches, giants, wolves and magic beans add to the entertainment value. The remixing of the sound is remarkable, in the VHS version there is someone in the audience applauding and standing too close to a microphone clearly mars its enjoyment, not the case in this DVD release. When you have the chance I fully recommend that you watch this joy of a play.

Was told this was a good one. Thought it to be very entertaining and funny. Not a big fan of musicals, but really enjoyed this one.

I've been looking for into the woods since I saw it on tv.I finally found it here on ebay and decided to buy it.I received the dvd a few days after ordering it and it was just as stated, Never opened and in great shape.

I bought the movie "Into the Woods". Very interesting play. I would love to go see it in person. We have a local community theater. We hope sometime in the future, we hope to be able to preform it. I think it would be a lot of fun.

Great musical! DVD came to me in perfect condition. I'm very excited about this show in particular because our high school will be doing this show in the spring of 2010!

This is the perfect DVD for those who like this show. Filmed live, this is well worth the price for anyone that likes the theater. The only down side is that there are no extras on the DVD. With this cast, I'd love to see some of the behind the scenes.

It takes the stories of Cinderella, Jack and the beanstock and the baker and his wife and weaves them into a delightful musical. The stories don't quite end up where you remember them ending from childhood... they continue. Wonderful music that I am humming days after and a more realistic ending for many of the stories we were told as kids.

This item was taken off of Ebay after I paid for it and I never received it. Why Ebay takes items off line and never tells us OR tells us WHY, I don't know. Ebay SHOULD tell us as we have time and money invested in Ebay, and to try and get an answer from ebay takes me hours to figure out. It becpmes not worth it. So, havving NOT received this item, it's difficult to rate it. Anything else you care to hear about?

Top notch musical. Catchy rhythms and great lyrics! Very lovable cast. Good for high school performances.

Was in a community theatre perfomance of this musical and then was able to see it on PBS. Great to have it on DVD. Will watch it over and over.

This is a great movie/broadway plauy. It is a must see and the actors adn actress are wonderful. It has great imagination

The music is by Stephen Sondheim, it's got a top notch cast. It's based on
those fairy tales that scared and thrilled you as a kid. What's not to like?

I bought this for my step daughter who loves the play. She has it on VHS and I thought she would like to be able to easily skip forward to her favorite songs.

The music is great and the performances are top notch. The lyrics are very clever and you need to watch it several times to hear them all. But each time it is very enjoyable to watch and hear.

Into the Woods, filmed live performance staring Bernadette Peters is a Classic. It is well filmed, and although sometimes the sound is challenged, it makes the viewier feel part of the actual audience.

Twisted Fairy Tales with Song and Dance make a great Sonheim fan proud. I also recommend: Sunday in the Park with George, with Ms. Peters and Mandy Patinkin.

Looking and waiting for the Broadway revival....

Great performances (especially by Peters and the Princes and Goldilocks), to me this is Sondeims most accessible musical. Will be watching it monthly!
