I bought this because I lost the copy I borrowed. This is a great book that continues the story "Drums along the Mohawk" by Walter D. Edmunds It is good as a stand alone book as well as being the first of a series. I especially related to the book because I had been to all the places in New York's back country, mentioned in the book.

If you like Diana Gabaldon you will really enjoy this book. Sara Donati keeps the story moving and interesting. She writes so that you feel you are there! I'm definately going to read the next two in this trilogy. I highly recommend this book.

This is not usually my genre of reading. However, once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. After reading it, I immediately purchased the next three books in the series, and am anxiously waiting for the 5th book to be released. The author developes the characters so well that you find yourself sharing their emotions and thinking of each character as a 'real person' rather than a fictional character. There is something for everyone in this book, whether it be native american, children, family, wilderness and nature, women's independence, romance, suspense, comedy - it's ALL there! This is one of my all time favorite books, and I truly am a book 'junkie'!
* * * BY THE WAY - This book is written by Rosina Lippi under her pen name of SARA DONATI. So, searching for Sara Donati, rather than Rosina Lippi, will bring up the Wilderness Series books.

  INTO THE WILDERESS
Review created: 05/21/09

I picked up this book because it was recommended by Diana Gabaldon. I have found it a satisfactory way to pass the time reading while waiting for the release of Echo in the Bone. The book is a little too black and white for me ie: the characters have little depth they are either angels or demons but, it is well written and flows logically. I will donate the book to my local library when I'm done as they lack a copy.

This is the first novel in the wilderness series. The series chronicles the lives of the Bonner family in the late 1700's in NY state. It is filled with adventure, history, Indians, frontiersmen.

I find it a little "romancy" and think it would appeal more to women. However, it is very entertaining!

I have read all the books except "Lake in the Clouds" and would easily recommend this series of books.

  Thoroughly compelling
Review created: 07/06/08

Being a great fan of "The Outlander" series, I was intrigued to see if I could feel the same interest in a story recommended by Diana Gabaldon. This is called a sequel to "The Last of the Mohicans" but one does not have to read that book to enjoy this one. The characters are all thoroughly believable and the love between Elizabeth and Nathaniel is heartbreakingly poignant. This is a fascinating period of American history and this story gives us a peak at the excruciating struggles our ancestors experienced in the early days of American independence. I highly recommend this very well written book.
