  A nice quick read....

I bought this book because it was at Borders for Buy 3 for the price of 2, and it caught my eye. I was able to read the book in about 2 days.

I find the book really interesting, I don't like ruining anything, but its basically a young man who had a good upbringing, but it just wasn't his world. He left everything to find his happiness, and that he found.

In certain parts of the book, it can be long-winded with all the comparisons made to other people. In essence, it helps us know our main character better, but sometimes, I just wanted to skip a couple of pages. (Which I didn't)

So all in all. If you want a good story, which will be coming to movies shortly, this is a good read. Ha, and don't pay full price for it, you can get a cheap one here on eBay.

This was a required reading in my college English class, normally I don't even read the assignments, but as soon as I read the first page I was hooked. I read this book in about 5 hours, straight through. I am going to be reading it a second time in the near future! A+

One of the best books I have read
Review created: 08/05/09

One of the best books i have read. strongly recommended. Chris McCandless's journey into the wild and his ideology, whether you share his same ideals or not, are very touching. Jon Krakauer is a great writer and takes the reader step by step up to the final days of Chris's life.

  Amazing!!!
Review created: 04/24/09

I had saw the movie first, but after reading the book the story is much easier to relate to. It gives very vivid details of Christopher McCandless' journey lonesome into the wild. It gives more then what the movie provided and gives a very deep perspective of the outdoors and comparison of Jon Krakauer's adventures.

  Good Price

I bought this book because I loved the movie. This book like other ones I have read, had a lot more detail then the movie , of course. But even though I enjoyed the book, I found out that I am not a big Krakauer fan. He likes to use too many descriptive words to explain the simplest thing. Its unnecessary and boring. And it seemed to turn in to a book about him and a lot of other person's life conquers or short falls. Over all I was happy with most of the book and would recommend it to a Jack London fan or a young person who needs a swift kick of reality.

  Wild Living
Review created: 01/01/09

I read this book when it first came out in hardcover. I lived in Alaska so I new this story from locals and new where the sight of this sad story took place. It's a very gripping story and sad story. I watched the movie when it came out, and the movie doesn't do the book justice. The book is much better.
Getting ready to buy the Audio book, to listen to it. I would recommened this book to anyone who likes true stories, or adventure stories. Jon Krakauer is a good story teller. I've read all his work. Another good one is Into Thin Air.

Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer (2007)
Review created: 03/26/08

A compelling writting, very thought provoaking for us that have been to the woods, and live by natures code. I was introdused to this book by the music on a local station, Eddie Vedder's soundtrack played to my heart, i had heard the story of Cris McCandles when it first came out, and thought little of it, i am an experience outdoorsman, and know what it takes to survive, live, and return from one's adventures, mission accomplished. This book really looks at all angles of this story, weather one feels he was misguided, or a pioneer. My prays are for his family, and friends, and anyone inspired by writtings, live life for yourself, not as others have put in print.

Why he went into the wild.
Review created: 03/13/08(updated 03/18/08)

Into the Wild will soon be in theaters. I wanted to read the book first. I wanted to know why this young man would do what he did. I wanted to try and understand what concept or misconception would cause him to risk his life. For which he would pay the ultimate price.

  Excellent book
Review created: 03/10/08

I purchased this book because I read a review about it in the newspaper. I wanted to see the movie but missed doing so. The book was very descriptive and detailed. It chronicles the ill planned and ill fated journey of a young man's quest for adventure into the wilderness of Alaska. Coming from a well educated and well to do family, you wonder what was his reasoning for embarking on such a foolish adventure so ill-prepared. At times it made me angry at his foolishness and at times it made me sad for him and for his family who also was left to wonder why? Good reading! I enjoyed it.

Sad, but great story to read. I learned about this true story from watching an 'Iconoclast' documentary on tv with Sean Penn and John Krakauer. Very interesting and definite page turner. I read this in one sitting because I could not put it down. I'm going to buy a second copy of this book to keep with my collectible editions.
