Into the Arms of Strangers: Stories of the Kindertransport (DVD, 2001)

I don't know what more I can say. I bought a dvd on Monday and had it on Thursday. I see about 1 person in 100 says that shipping is late, but I would attribute that more to the United States Postal Service than this seller. You can't sell and ship this many dvds without having a system in place. I would buy from this seller again.

New condition as promised. DVD arrived within the time promised (with 2 days to spare). Great price. Would buy from this seller again. Good eBayer.

I bought it because it is narrated by Judi Dench as my primary reason. Then, I bought it because of the story or stories behind it. It is an excellent story of the horrible events and tragedies that touched so many children and families. We saw where individuals and governments showed either their strengths or their selfishness and weaknesses at a critical time. So many more children could have been saved and weren't. So many families were ended - their posterity gone. But, among the sadness, were the flickering lights of those who survived and of those who helped them survive. For each one of them their must be a special blessing. A horrible time in our history is detailed in this DVD and I am very glad that I bought it. I think young people should see it and have an understanding of what other factors hit these poor people and how man's inhumanity can be manifested. It was a time of collective insanity that new practically no bounds and we have to know about it to prevent it from happening again. Buy it and watch and think about it - and share it.

This documentary is a perfect introduction to the study of the Holocaust as it contains detailed information,striking authentic imagery and the commentary of real people who lived the experience. I bought it to use in my eighth grade Special Education Social Studies class, as the first in a series of films that I show to help students visualize the reality of the Holocaust.

Watching "Into the Arms of Strangers," the students were mezmerized, appalled, hurt, indignant. And of course, they wanted to know more.

There is a teaching quide that can be downloaded from the Internet that is absolutely invaluable. It contains a timeline of the Holocaust, photos, a glossary of terms, and discussion topics. All of these are useful for the viwer who is outside the classroom as well.

A documentary of human drama played out during the ramp-up to WWII, this is a riveting tale of survival. The story of a Nazi good-will propoganda campaign after Kristalnacht (spelling?), the Kindertransport relocated Jewish Children to any country willing to accept them. England alone allowed these innocents access to her shores (shame on the USA and others.) The telling of families being separated, reconfigured with new additions, and sometimes reunited is heartwarming. Children coped with being separated from their parents, the orphanage and adoption process, adjusting to a new family situation (sometimes more than once), and the anxiety of what would happen to their parents. A couple of these children joined the military to fight Naziism, one young man was reunited with his parents after the war, one girl actually found work and arranged passage for her parents out of Nazi-occupied territory. Really worth watching, especially if you're a WWII history addict. A harbinger of things to come?
